Help

My battery compartment is filled with battery acid/corrosion. It has a newer battery so it must be from the old one.
What is the best way to clean this out.
I already wiped it down. Also the negative ground is a bare braided copper wire. That is pretty corroded. I will replace that.
And one last thing....When my lights are on I get a fade that last a few seconds or more then comes back. It is quite subtle,But it is noticeable.Especially with the instrument panel lights. Could this be caused by the corroded ground. Any input would be highly appreciated.

Do yourself a favor and check your voltage regulator....sounds as if your alternator is over charging....this will cause all of the symptoms you have mentioned...as wellas many other problems...regards jer

Use baking soda and water to neutralize the acid. The thread about checking the charging system is a very very good idea. A gel cell battery is also a great idea.

You need to check your electrical system Voltage ASAP with a Digital Voltmeter. Anything more 14.5 to 15 Volts above idle is bad news for batteries, CDI-units, Quartz-Halogen lamps, among other things! A properly operating alternator and regulator will keep a relatively constant 13.5 to 14 Volts above 2000 rpm.

Baking Soda is the traditional method of cleaning up battery acid spillage. Good luck!
