Nice write up, I think many of us are very jealous!!!

-FYI keep in mind that today's modern cars, including Porsche's have extremely advanced data storage systems to provide dealers with all kinds of engine/system history. To this end I would not be surprised that if someone were to not follow the factory's break-in schedule and had a probem, the dealer could hook the car up to a computer and pull out details on driving history. Who knows if a dealer would then use this against an owner with a blown engine?

Now to be honest I think a 2000 mile brake in period is insane, and I'm sure that after 3-500 miles the engine is likely ready for full action, but I would be very carefull because all of our new cars have all kinds of systems that can be used by "big brother" to detail what we've been doing.

Good post.

You may have finally inspired me to take up Don Adis' (GM Prestege Porsche) offer for me to buy a GT3RS. All it takes is some influence. and I may yeald.

If I do this, it will be through my friends at the Factory and Prestiege.

How about a pair; GT3RS street car and a GT3RSR that I can play with.

Best,
Grady

There was some question as to if the GT3 (street, RS, or RSR) still had an aircooled based motor w/ true dry sump and 8 main bearings, is this still the case as it was w/ the 996 variants?

Both the turbo and the gt3 (and variants) have a dry-sump engine crankcase, evolved from the 993. This is true for 996 and 997 models and it is also why engine parts are not interchangeable between 996/997 carrera's and gt3/turbo models.

Boxters have the same engine type as 996/997 carrera's as well..

Nice write up....but....there is no way you can review this car by running the revs at 50% of capability. Review again in a few months!

I agree 100%.

Driving a GT3 and being told to keep the engine under 4,000 RPM was like being told you could have a supermodel for a night, but you couldn't... ah, you get the picture.

The GT2 Turbo/GT3 have the oil tank located where the oil cooler is normally mounted to the crankcase. This is a far better application than any previous 911. I intend to use this on my son’s 914-6.

Best,
Grady

Emission - Is your 930 lowered? Also are you running headers and increased boost on your car?

I was curious about your comment on being squeek\creek free compared to the 930. My 930 feels extremely tight and has absolutely zero arthritis.

Good write-up.

This is a poor picture of a picture, but it came out of April's Excellence magazine and shows the GT3 with one wheel off the ground while simply climbing up a driveway. Stiff? Oh yea!!

My 930 is lowered just a bit (slightly lower than Euro ride height) - done by TRE.

Compared to any late-model vehicle, mine isn't very rigid. The strut brace did help.

It does squeek and creek, especially when I start pounding on it (but, most of the time the windows are down, or I have a helmet on, so I can't hear it).

The GT3 was very solid - that pic a few posts above makes perfect sense!

To me, THIS is finally a car that can carry the spirit of the wonderful old longhood Carrera.

Sigh.....If I sell the house so I can swing one, I'll have no garage to store it. Decisions decisions!

I think it's the best motor Porsche has put in a street-legal car since the 73RSR 2.8L Touring. I just wish the chassis size and weight were closer to the 73RS/RSR. The weight is about the same as a 1980's BMW 5-series sedan

Great write up, I totaly agree with you in that a WHITE 911 does not stop traffic like other exotics but if you ask me that comes down to color...... white is just so low key, a white ferrari would not even get my attention .

Just for fun you guys should check out this clip.... its pretty much the DREAM shipment, oh, and I love the new shade of RUF green. Not low key at all but it looks awsome.
