I've been searching the web without luck for some nice toggle switches to mount in the restored dashboard. I had in mind some switches I saw before, but now I can't seem to find again (ugh). They looked something like the toggle switches that Anakin keeps flipping on the Pod racer. I thought I saw them on a ford GT, but now that I'm looking at them on the web, they don't look like I remember. Now I guess they must have been in one of my car magazines...
Anyhow, anyone have any ideas for some cool toggle switches? Thanks so much, Karsten Wilson Eugene, OR '77 911SC 2.7L |

I ran lucas switches on my car. There are a lot of switches out there, start searching with Google, go to ebay, etc.

You may be looking for "paddle" switches.
Like toggles but with a wider blade for fingers. Do a search at DIgi-Key or Mouser for them. Bob

I think Summit Racing has a selection. Some marine online stores have got some good ones, but I went to the local marine supply (remember, I live near one of the biggest marinas in the US) and the stuff was pathetic. I ended up getting some cool old time ones at an electronics surplus store. You could check aircraft supply houses as well.

I've been wanting to find a use for the covered toggle switch, like the ones that Chuck Yeager used on the experimental NF-104 rocket-augmented "Starfighter" plane (see the movile "The Right Stuff".
These were also used in the Le Mans winning GT-1 way back in ah....'98? 2000? So long ago I can't remember now. I think the covered toggles can be bought at an aircraft supply store, like Spruce Aircraft. |

find a Jag that broke down on the side of the road - it'll have some toggles on it -- most reliable part of the electrical system...

Mcmaster Carr have a good selection, it might at least give you an idea of some of the different types available.

When I was deployed to Bosnia in 1996 > I drove out to the Yougoslav air force base > they had bunches of MIG-21s and L-39 parked there > some were very shot up > some were in fairly decent shape.
Climbed in a MIG-21 > I had my toolkit with me and stripped out a toggle switch panel > 10" x 8" > two rows of 9 toggle switches... > max switches!! would be neat to integrate into a car some way .. I also got a pitot tube off the MIG > and have it mounted on the top of my beater Toyota sunroof wind deflector ... MIG bling!!

I'd like to see some pictures of 911 dashes with toggle switches in place of traditional switches. Any pics out there?

Here is a pic. These are simple toggle switches--purchased from racing supply places. Pretty cheap. Injector grounding pushbuttons are from Radio Shack.

Mike, very cool. We need more pics of that setup.
Here are a few more: Porsche GT1 LM Chuck Yeager (Sam Sheppard) in the movie "The Right Stuff" ![]() turning on the liquid fuel booster pump switching off Randall Raines arms the Nitrous bottle in Eleanor then hits the button: Admiral James Greer hits the torpedo self destruct button aboard the USS Reuben James

I should add that my switches are all custom wired-- I made all of my own harnesses and have a custom fuse panel. Since it is a race car, it was a pretty easy project. A bunch of wire, switches, a few MSD type conectors, and some good quality shrink wrap purchased at an electronics discount place in sillicon valley. I know every circuit and connector and crimp.

Steve, I think yours and Randall's switch orientation may be upside down, although I don't know if it matters.
