Smile New Project for a newbie to 911's

Here is my first 911 project. I have done a few 914's in my past, but decided to make the leap.

It is a 1970 T, original engine (yes, I know, that will be dealt with after the body, as I have a low budget right now), steel flares, 7's and 9's (aftermarket Fuchs), IROC body work, and both a whale tail and duck tail (not sure which one I will like in the end, possibly trade off once in a while)

I have some rust in the usual places, as I have read in the other threads, but this should turn out to be a pretty good car.

It is now a tub with a wiring harness. I am always afraid to play with those in a 35+ YO car. I plan to strip all undercoating off, fix all questionable rust areas, and give it a new life from the bottom up. Most original parts are in great shape. I plan to also do the usual, rebuild all calipers, new brake lines, turbo tie rods, shocks and T-bars are OK for now (remember, low budget). I will also need some seats as the originals are shot.

Any words of encouragement out there ? I will try to keep this updated with new pictures if anyone is actually interested.

Where are you located? I have a bunch of parts you may/may not need. In that pile are a pair of front seats, stock Recaros, not sport. They are in fair condition for age.

Been there, done that. You will be very happy when you finish. Interpret that any way you want, but it will be fun and rewarding. Good luck, there are lots of helpful people here if you need info.

I believe we all make mistakes but I will not validate your poor choices and/or perversions and subsidize the results your actions.

Thankx for the replies guys.
The flares were welded on in 1986 and look real clean. There has been some work on the body after that, but i am not sure how old the paint is. I plan on stripping as much as necessary of the paint, but I was not going in to the project ready to strip it down to metal like the last car I did.

914's a bunch of fun, but I always wanted an early 911.

I am located in TN, so at some time in the future I will need a few 'items' I am sure.

Nice project

Keep posting your progress and we'll compare notes. Just had my 71E media blasted (plastic beads). It's at the painters now, while I rebuild the engine.

regards,

Don,

Hello neighbor. I am in Jackson. Where are you at?

There is a group of us that get together once a month (non-PCA) and do a meet and drive. We call them the MTFR's (Mid TN Fun Runs). Would love to see the car from time to time. And if you ever need some extra hands, let us know and maybe we can do our outing to your place! One of our guys, David Bailey (beetleBailiey on this board) is doing an RSR conversion on his 69 right now.

Looks like you had a great place to start from. Did you pick the car up here in the state?

I am a knoxvillian. A transplant from up north which will never go back...Damn Yankee.
Sounds like a good time.
I picked the car up from Cleveland, TN. I am lucky enough to have a 30 x 30 garage, for fun things like this.
