I'm not a huge fan of red, but there's just something special about the way a guards red car looks after a proper polishing job. It just glows.

She looks good.

On the guards red/ India red thing - is this a USA/ROW thing? Perhaps the Germans had named it India red for whatever reason (saris?) but someone in the USA marketing department decided that it would be a poor cultural look to have a color that was easy to twist into 'red indian', so they got a name change to guards red, but never bothered with the German paint name

You see that sort of thing all the time with car companies, head office picks a name, then doesn't find out it is culturally insensitive or translates badly until well down the track. I think after 9/11 porsche NA dropped the 911 out of all marketing material, and you were sold a Carrera if you so enquired.

Just my theory anyway.

This is my understanding of Guards Red vs India Red. It is a color match to the red worn as a british military uniform by some regiment stationed in India referred to as the kings guards. So either word was used India Red or Guards Red both are synonyms and refer to the same military jacket. Similar in color by the way to the red worn as a dress uniform by the Canadian RCMP. Just my 2c.

By the way, I think as long as I can remember, red has been my favorite color. Has to be Red/White/Blue, for any kid growing up in my era, right? So Blue seemed to me to be too calm, and Red seemed to be the more aggressive color. Maybe that is why, but...

Anyway, red wagon, red bicycle, red tractors, red sweaters, red heads, the red baron, red cars, etc. "when I get old I'm going to wear a red hat, red shoes, and pee on my neighbors yellow flowers"

Here's our girl. Thanks to a long, colorful history, she's a few variations of Guards Red.

My red 74

Stutzdriver. We were there too. Me, and my two sons with four cars there. One of my daughter in laws drove one of them. Sorry we did not get a chance to visit. Pretty car.

Wow, there are some absolutely stunning cars on this post! You really got me wanting to share with you.
Here are a couple shots of my 1979 Non-Sunroof Indishrot 930, Rudolph, taking a cooling-off after a spirited drive. Hope you enjoy.
These early cars are just super enjoyable to drive!
