85 Cruise Control cable, help!

Searched threads for an hour on cruise control not working in my 85 Targa.
Need help please.
I'm a rookie mechanic- nothing with a power source should be given to me to use for repair-and I think my cruise control cable is broken or disconnected.
Picture from another Pelican's post with good cable.
Questions:
Is this the cable to my cruise control?
If so, mine is disconnected just shy of the end piece. Does the cable
have a permanent "hook" piece to hold it or does it clamp at its end
with a secondary something?
I've become addicted to reading these forums; my social life has screeched to a halt. I put snow tires on my Targa yesterday and today it snowed 4 inches of fresh powder! 1st 911 two months ago and couldn't be happier!

Yes that is your cruise control cable. The plastic clip often breaks on the end. You can just take two zip ties and cross them over the end to clamp it back down on the metal bracket. A new cable is $$$$.

Thanks Kurt V. Sorry but I'm confused by your zip tie solution? I have a straight wire (cable) and I should attach a couple of zip ties how? I have duct tape and coat hangers; now I use zip ties too?

I'm not sure if I understand your question, the picture looks OK - but it sounds like the end of the cable has come off? It is permanently attached ?why did they do that? but maybe someone cut it off when they tried to remove it. If this is the case maybe you could use a bicycle brake cable anchor bolt to get it working. Here is a pic, it looks like you might be able to modify this to work.

The plastic connection normally breaks off where I have the green arrow. If this is the case you can cross over two small zip ties where I have the red arrow and go over the metal bracket to secure. If this is not where it broke, please give us a bit more info.

I think the plasti zip tie thing is one of the unspoken things that we all do, but no one will admit to doing. That plastic holder is pesky, and often gets stuck at partial throttle on a long trip, hence the zip tie trick to keep it snugged down.

You might (might) consider a fishing weight and some lead solder. Make a hook in the wire to make sure the weight doesn't slip off. Wait a sec, you're a rookie mechanic? Maybe you can enlist some help. btw I don't know anyone who has snow tires on their 911.

End of the wire, not cable housing.

Snowtires? Yup. I live in a ski resort. 6 months of winter usually minimum.
I grew up here driving in the snow; first car was a 72 VW bug, in 72. Front wheel was just coming out and SUV's were of one flavor: Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Otherwise the bug was the ticket. My Targa reminds me of the VW with similar heater/defrost, engine in rear setup (not power or handling of course) and my teenage enthusiasm/ignorance is similar to what I have now with the Targa.
Stupid happy to have this car and unwilling to leave it in the garage without the snow. Everyone here seems to say "drive the car" constantly. I'm really excited to use it carefully in the snow.
Quite a few older 911's in my little town and many drive them year round.

Mine is superglued .... the cable broke inside of the plastic sleeve. I also added support with a coax cable clamp from home depot (box of 25 for $2.95). I think there is supposed to be a plastic clamp on the heater duct (notice the empty hole - mine is AWOL), and this does a nice job as a stand - in. Screwed right in place.

Ha! After reading this thread, I just went out to have a look at mine - tiewrapped by the PO just as you describe! Too bad the cruise control doesn't work - apparently for some other reason.
