Since I had to pull the tranny for some syncro work, I decided to do a little cleaning on the engine while I was waiting to get the gearbox back. Here are a couple of pictures taken after multiple parts cleaner soakings and pressure washings. It was amazing how much crud had built up on the hidden parts over the 28 years the car has been in service!
![]() ![]() All I have left to clean on the long block is the spark plug recesses. I will take care of that when I pull the rocker covers to check the valve adjustment. Oh yes, all the perishable parts (rubber) will be replaced as I reassemble the bits and pieces that live on top of the engine. I think that I am going to add a 6" extension on the alternator wires to make future R&R easier.

6" extensions on the alternator, now that's thinking ahead! Replace all those seals that Wayne and others talk about while you have it apart. I pulled my engine last year cause I had crossthreaded the #1 spark plug and needed a clean shot at rethreading it (it was successful). Since that was the only reason I pulled the motor I did minimal cleaning and put it back in. My rationale was I got what I set out to do done, and I shouldn't push my luck (first pcar engine removal). I wish I'd spent some more time doing some of those "While your in there" things. Nice job.

The exhausts are the SSI stainless equal length headers with heat exchangers. If you don't have a set, get them! Best $$$ I ever spent on the Pcar! Wayne will be glad to sell you a set!

Well, this project is almost done. The engne is back together, the tranny has new syncros, the engine wiring harness has been repaired (hack jobs by a previous owner!) and the engine compartment has been cleaned up, gotten a new sound pad and new vacuum hoses to the carbon cannister. Here are some pictures:
![]() ![]() ![]() At least now I won't get filthy dirty when I change the plugs or do an oil and filter change! Thanks to the board members that answered questions along the way!

Thanks for the comments! The coil is an MSD unit that works with the M6A box that you can see on the left of the engine bay picture. If I can get the drivetrain back in the chassis next weekend it will have taken a month for the entire job. Of course I did not go into the longblock, but still it takes a while to figure out just what bits and pieces need to be replaced and to have them on site. The detail clean-up work took a fair amount of time also. I can't wait to be back behind the wheel!

I reinstalled the engine/transmission this morning. I did not finish all the bits and pieces as there is a large auto swap meet going on here this weekend and I wanted to spend a few hours looking at cars and parts. Here is a picture of the engine back in it's house.
![]() Everything else should be finished by tomorrow afternoon.

Tidying up.............
The fan (along with much of the other removable pieces) was powder coat painted. The only catch is that you will have to remove the paint from the alternator shaft hole and from the key slot. Otherwise it won't go back together. I am hoping that the tougher powder coat paint will hold up better on the fan blades.

I'm a loser, baby.

Uh oh!! You did it now!
Now don't go complaining that it won't start and what not. You know what happens when you start cleaning things that didn't need it.
