It is really not that big of a deal. Most everything is still masked off. Only the main chassis got clear coated so I will have to scuff that down with 600. All the loose parts only got a 2 coats of base so that is a no brainer...I can just spray the new color right over the old.
Already have a call into PPG regarding the new color so hopefully I will have a pint mixed up by the end of the day and get something sprayed tonight. Fingers crossed...I only want to do this twice!

Chris, I replaced the dash face in my car with brushed stainless faced plastic laminate (formica). It worked great, and fits nicely into the trim surround. You could use this and just don't make the cutouts. I had to buy a whole sheet and have tons left over. If interested, I'll give you a large enough piece to do your dash that you could play around with. Here is a poor pic of mine.

Greg,
Your dash front looks great! Where did you get the laminate, and what did you use to cut it? I haven't been able to convince myself that I could cut the material evenly enough to look correct. |

Chris..I'm glad you decided to repaint. I love your other car, but this color was going to take a while to grow on me. Then again, I had quite a lot of naysayers about my color of grey, and that ended up turning out ok in the end. I'm excited to see the final product.

Mike,
First, lets not hijack the thread. Basically, I made templates then cut the laminate with a router and flush trim bit. You should be able to order the laminate from most building supply outlets, however there will be a minimum amount you must purchase, hence my " tons left over" PM me if you want more info.

I saw Chris' car yesterday with the clear coat on, and the color was actually pretty cool - a mix between pistachio and avacado. I started gettin' real hungry just looking at it!
If this was a "fluffer" 911 it would be the perfect color, but then you would have to add wheel arch trim and a muffler skirt. .Chris showed me what he has in mind for the "new" color, and the result will look great sitting next to his ST - very purposeful.

Yeah, yeah, don't worry...the green is gone. New color is not even close.
Getting lots of painting practice though... now I'm not scared to repair the dent in the fender of the ST.

I was scrolling through thinking "I must be an idiot, cause I don't see any green pics!". I know I'm still an idiot, but at least now I can cross that off my list as the cause.

Nope...thanks though.
I got it figured out...secret paint code from Ferrari and a touch of this and a dash of that...and voila...perfection! Sanding tonight and tomorrow, then paint on Friday and Saturday.

Been busy repainting the car and I am truly 100% pleased with the new color. I actually like it better than my ST! I ended up mixing a couple known colors together to get this one and I think it is PERFECT. There is quite a bit of green in there but it is an overcast day and difficult to tell. The body work is just temporarily mounted just to take a couple pics and then everything will need to disassembled again to do all the final sanding and polishing.
I had a friend helping me with some of the work up till about a week ago so I am proud to say that the repaint was 100% my doing...something to be proud of! Yes, anyone can paint a car with the right know how and tools but it is a PITA so make sure you know what you are getting into. Lots of small details to come but hey, at least it is out of the paint booth! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
