That's true. The 959 has the intercoolers there, but there are big air ducts that route air around the wheels and out the back.

Howdy Chaps,
I do the web development/content for Pat's site and own the mule used for developing the EFI conversion/package engine for 930's (it's the white slant with puke green interior - been driving it 25 years). Ok, onto the 2.61tt. The owner of this car could have bought anything he wanted out of the box to race but desired something totally unique blending some form with alot of function. This has fit the bill to a "T". As PWR likes to run the faster tracks like Sebring, Daytona and Road America good aero was a requirement and a 996 body is slippery - not to mention a rather rare sight on the grid - to go along with a 2.6litre twin turbo based on a torsion bar chassis. As the 996 profile would have require cutting the roof on a coupe anyway and this waterlogged targa happened to "splash" into the shop about the time a donor was being sought, it was a natural step and just added to the uniqueness of this project. The predominant objective at the time this car was built was PCA's adjusted displacement formulae for turbo engined GT3 class cars, any component selection (body/trans/suspension, etc..) was driven by performance and reliability criteria. This car is dead reliable and vice free, it's chassis now the benchmark for subsequent cars built to this formula as you'll see with the site I'm doing for his latest project. As the performance of this car and the earlier PWR 2.1tt resulted in a PCA rule change over last winter, it was decided to build an all out GT1 car. A 3.4 litre throttle bodied twin turbo on an 86 930 chassis with a 993 Getty body. As the 3.4 has a huge torque curve over nearly 3,500rpm rev range, this one runs what would be a considered a retrograde step - a 4 speed with an active first - but man does it fly. ![]()

Freakin' awesome. All four of the tires on my car put together don't equal one rear tire on that car!
![]() I like the 996 body choice. It's a good looking race car. People are acting like PWR chose to go with a poopy looking body like a 964! LOL

Amen Brotha!!!
You Tenna.... Tennessee boys look like you're having a ball! That project is just plain wicked right down to the choice of paint color. Kudos to PWR and the owner! I'm gonna have to check you guys out the next time I'm down that way. Paul

Howdy Chaps,
Kevin tires/rims are indeed wide, they're the same as a Grand Am prototype - lots more tire choices. Paul, if I hadn't completely fallen over on updating his site - been distracted restoring this 1941 Indian Four (notice that color similarity, eh? Yup, it's 1949 Ford sea foam green) - I'd have done up a site for his personal daily driver, a 1968 912 currently fitted with a 911S MFI motor but to be replaced with a twin turbo 2 litre with contoured intercooler to permit using the stock decklid and exhausts routed from the turbos back to a sport muffler. The clock's been replaced with a custom made manifold/boost pressure guage exactly like the other green/chrome instruments. Feather light, with plastic/uprated torsions & sways it is a beautifully balanced piece - makes me miss my 73 S - and with that quick rev'n small turbo motor will be a drifting savant.

Man the guy who built the 996 had it bad...that's a cool thought though about doing twin oil coolers behind the rear wheels..

Howdy Reaper,
Though initial airflow to them was adequate, this machine is raced often here in the south, No Name, Daytona, Roebling, Sebring in incredibly hot weather at high boost levels. To ensure the same bullet proof durability of the 2.1tt for extra insurance, you'll note on PWR's homepage where it's on the high banks at Daytona between 1 and 2 that it now has dual airscoops integrated into the tops of the rear fenders behind the quarter windows. The 3.4TT and the other 2.6TT - now a 3.0TT - have conventional pancake intercoolers on top of the motor because of rear body architecture space limitations. |

Pat Williams does great work. He's been working on my cars since we moved to Memphis 6-years ago. He does everything from race cars to full restorations. His personal longhood is beautiful. The subject of this thread is incredible.
He just finished my non-regulation 72T. Rebuilt the motor to 2.7RS specs with MFI (throttle response like a nerve impulse). Complete suspension and transmission rebuild/restoration. Car is a street car but does very well in DEs and autox. Wails like a banshee with the M&K R-style muffler. Built as TR replica.Pat is a master with EFI turbos. The components he uses are works of art. Pat is the man! Rick

I have some but they're not very good. You can go to Mid South Region of PCA and click on the Cal Turner Tennessee Tubs event. Mine is the silver car shown in the first few pic.
Car looks good from 10 feet, but really needs a cosmetic restoration. My plans are a bare metal repaint/restoration with all the TR items. The interior will get light weight carpets, TRE ST seats (probably with cord), rubber mats and I'll keep my door pockets. I'll have the dash and a few other pieces recovered by Autobahn. Here's what I've done so far:

I thought I recognised that car, saw it at Cal festival of Speed in April. Was parked a few spots down from me. That car had a few problems but the kacky green car was Ok, both were fast and the green car won a Sat. Club race I believe.
Beautiful cars up close.
