We all like how our ladies look in bras, but my b!tch is so ugly I make her wear a mask.

Hey Marco,
That's a classic bra. I sold mine a couple of years ago (MG Mitten ) and now use the current 2-piece mini-version of the ugly bra. I'll call it "sorta ugly", but it keeps the rocks and bugs with tap shoes from removing paint bits.

Love the responses. Surprised nobody called the bra "fugly" yet. You gentlemen have no class.

You're right on the money Sherwood. The mask is an updated/modified reproduction that my upholsterer made for me using my dad's crusty, dusty original as a pattern - the old man used to run it on his 67S softie back in the 80s.

We're actually reproducing them on a per-order basis; it's just something different for the early crowd that doesn't want the standard 2-piece Colgan. Options are nice...personally, I like it because it's soooooo much different that the what most people use.

It's so ugly it's cool? Like bell bottoms? Or mutton chops? I'm reaching....

Nice, Scott! Glad it found a SWB home!

You can readily see the differences between the two in that picture. The cut lines/seams are a bit different and there're no bumper cutouts or licence plate cutout on mine. It's refreshing to see that even the orignal bra doesn't sit "absolutely perfectly flat" on the front bumper or around the headlights ... that's one of the things that we're trying to improve with the one on my car.

I remember way back when they first came out in the 70s and were quite the rage. The full bra like that was a favorite for track work. Thanks for the nostalgia.

Its quite funny how tastes change so dramatically over time. What was considered 'cool' and was readily accepted is now mocked.

I applaud your retro wish to be different, no matter what the opinion.

I dunno. Back when I was a kid, my parents spent quite a bit of money on new dining room furniture. My mom was so worried about her unruly kids scratching the table, that she's always covered it with heavy table cloths. I think I last saw the table itself in like 1978. I feel the same way about my cars. No sense in having a gorgeous car when all you see is hideous black vinyl.

But then, to each his own. If it wiggles your willy - more power to ya!

Not sure if Marco permanently epoxied and weatherstripped the mask onto the front end, but I suspect he only uses it for those special occasions (e.g. weddings, bar mitzvahs and track days). When I had one, I used the full hood bra on road trips to reduce the volume of insect guts on the paint. More damaging are the effects of road debris thrown up by other vehicles as you tailgate others in the no. 1 lane..

On the track, many owners apply yards of 3M painter's tape to the front end of their dual-purpose cars for temporary protection, or they forego any rock barriers and suffer the consequences, accepting pock-marked paint as "race patina".

In addition, an open trailered car with this type bra receives much protection from the exposure. We all know a flapping car cover isn't good for the paint.

I think replicating these is a good move on Marco's part. I've said this before about bras. As with car covers, they may not look aesthetic, but that's not the objective is it? Once removed, the car reverts back to it's original shape and shine. That can't be said for vehicles who avoid the added protection and accept the permanent blemishes.

Here's 1/2 (1/3?) of my current unsightly 2-piece bra. I use the other part, the bumper section, modified to match the oil cooler inlet, for full on bug assaults on long road trips and go naked otherwise.

We're not making these for stock ... there just doesn't seem to be enough of a market for it.

If someone wants one we'll make it - with or without grill light holes or license plate cutouts or bumper guard holes, etc. - but it's such an odd part that it doesn't make sense to produce them in bulk.

No, more like taking a '70S and doing a widebody slant conversion and adding white gauges and white piped purple pleather seats.

THAT kinda ugly.
