I don't think so. PST2 software runs under WIndows 3.11. Did your Toshiba start in Windows or directly in PST2?

The Toshiba starts in PST2 but Windows 95/98 flashed on the screen for a second or two.

I got the 600E to run the PT2 demos, but it doesn't seem to recognize the PCMCIA card.

Next step?

Richard,
It's a type III card. It only goes in one way.

Hi,
I just found this post. I know it's old, but what's the latest news in re-creating PST2? I've got a couple of old Dell lap tops running XP. I'd like to get a nifty toy to do my own diagnostics w/o buying a Durametric (durametric.com) kit.

let's just say the Dell laptop is probably the least critical element in creating a PST-2 clone. They float around on eBay for less than 60$ these days. You need the Bosch hardware.

I've made some progress on two fronts with this stuff over the past few years.
But I only work on it now and then.

I have created recreated various DLLs from the PST2 and patched some,
so that it will run on Windows XP. And I created drivers so the Bosch PCMCIA
card can be recognized on XP.

The other front is a replacement for the Bosch card. It uses my own PCB
over USB, running on XP. That's "working" but no where near done.

Some screenshots running on XP with the Bosch PCMCIA card:

This last screenshot shows the PST2 pgm running (inside my debugging aid).

Pst 2

HB
Long story. i was contacted by someone who was able to convert the Toshiba hard drive system to the IBM Thinkpad system. Took dumps of the Toshiba and thumb drive info plus a new hard drive and lots of emails. Had to find an old Thinkpad 600E that would take the Porsche Diagnostic Card.
It took several months but I have a working PST 2 again. PST2 only works on Porsches through 2004. That's OK. I can't afford a new one anyway.

"i was contacted by someone who was able to convert the Toshiba hard drive system to the IBM Thinkpad system."

A simple effort and what most have done. Using Win 3.11 works fine and no need to deal
with a Registry like later Win OSs.

Tbe simple answer: You need Bosch hardware and then some level of Porsche software to run a PST-2. The hardware is the KTS400 multiplexer PCMCIA-III card. The software is Porsche's PST-2 framework ported to a laptop or running on a KTS500 tablet.

"ok, so from the beginning. How can I get this? What is needed?"

The costly and critical part is the Bosch multiplexer/interface card, i.e. the Bosch PCMCIA
card and its cable. After that, the other part as previously posted is fairly simple.
Do a Google search or an eBay search; (The PST2s do get listed there on occasion.)
It's not as difficult as some infer, i.e. requiring only basic PC knowledge. These testers
have been available to many for over ten years.

Ok, I've searched Ebay and Craigslist for a couple of days now trying to find the parts needs...zippo. However, I did find something that is interesting. I don't know how well this works or not, but according the ad, it will work for Porsche.

Toad OBD1 OBD2 Auto Scanner Car Diagnostic Software Scantool for Elm 327 ELM327 | eBay

OBD-1 Car Support List | Car OBD Diagnostics, ECU Chip Tuning & Auto Repair Support

I didn't see where I could get the OBD cables from their website, but it's a start???

Your thoughts?

HB

EDIT: I found this, but I don't know how legitimate this site is or isn't.

Porsche OBD USB Diagnostic Fault Code Cable - This PIWIS Lead allows Diagnostics for your Porsche
The 1st link is for just generic OBD2 diagnostics (engine only) for 993 ('96) and later.
The 2nd link is OBD1 (like 964 & early 993) but won't function for Porsche, i.e. very
limited OBD1. The last link is basically like the Durametric Porsche diagnostic tool
for ODB2 Porsche cars.

That's the Bosch PCMCIA card required by the Porsche diagnostic app to interface to the
Porsche ECUs via the diagnostic connector.

I've got a KTS500 with standard Bosch software and PCMCIA card number 0 684 400 400. I guess this is the standard type of card too. I've seen notes that it is possible to modify the standard card to get it working with the Porsche software. Any tips on this?
Cheers,
Tore
