I was skeptical at first, but after running Techron through 2 consecutive tanks, the engine is noticeably more responsive, revs are quicker, idle is dead stop stable.
But the downside is, the engine is not making as much noise as it used to Maybe that is a good thing. If you have not tried it, use it. I am gonna stick this stuff into every gas tank i own.

What I think Jim is trying to say is that it's best to use Techron just before an oil change. That way you flush any techron blow by residue away with the used oil. Better to have a lubricant on the surfaces meant to have oil than a solvent, dig?

also cleaned the carb on a non-p car.. didn't have to rebuild after it started coughing.. better to do a slow techron clean in short drives than one 300 mile cruse.. to allow techron time to do its thing

Ronin:
I have heard just the opposite: that best practice is to run that motor for a long, long drive so that the core and peripherals all get up to maximum heat. I brought my #1 cylinder back on line this way (car was abandoned for six months, six more while I negotiated price as it sat outside in my front yard). Empty tank, 20oz, drive to 1/2 tank, refill with premium, then drive the rest of the gas out. Amazing difference either way. I don't want to think about my K-jetronic seals and rubbers though! John

quotes from John
"I have heard just the opposite: that best practice is to run that motor for a long, long drive so that the core and peripherals all get up to maximum heat." ---- not saying it's bad to do it on a long drive.. whatever works, works "about my K-jetronic seals and rubbers though!" ----- seals/rubbers are an easy fix.. maybe a PIA, but you can't screw it up.. they dry out

I sort of did both. The first tank (20oz tech to 3/4 gas) was around town, some twisties and to the office. The second tank (20oz tech to 4/4 gas) was a 300 mile out of town trip. I started noticing some real difference towards the end of the second tank.
Gonna change the oil with a valve adj in a couple of weeks. Maybe i should go for a third dose and she will start to get some boost from the Techron Turbo

Techron is a Chevron product, they come in 12 and 20 oz sizes. As for when to do it, many on this list recommend before an oil change. The instructions on the lable does not specify. I do not really think it matters too much, but we are all a little anal about our cars.

I love this stuff. I use it every 6 mos. It make s a noticable differance evry time. No problems with rubber or seals. I believe that Porsche even blesses it.

My local Wal-Mart has the stuff on the shelf. So it should be easy to get.
Great stuff.

No to take away from the Chevron praises...............for those with the older cars like myself, my mechanic who cut his teeth on the pre-74 models advised to use "Marvel Mystery Oil" (10ounces every 3-4 tank fulls). Okay, I use Chevron Techron and the best oil I can buy, so now what?
Well, it is true, the more I researched, the better I feel about pouring in this "strawberry syrup" looking stuff and keeping the upper end well lubricated and clean. A fairly long thread ran here awhile back on MMO and I was surprised how many used it and felt some benefit from its use. Just another suggestion to get more miles, more pleasure and more out of the investment. Regards Bob 73.5T CIS |

Marvel Mystery Oil
An old boss of mine added this religiously to the gas in his '72 Chevy pickup. That 350 had 270K+ miles on it when I left the company, and it was still running like a sewing machine.
Looks/seems very similar to diesel fuel to me...........

On Marvel Mystery Oil: this is something you would not want to put in a freshly rebuilt engine, is it?

My 96 was ideling rough so I figured I would try the Techron before a long drive one week ago. I can honestly say, much to my surprise, this stuff really works. After sitting basically for two months I knew I needed to do something.
I will use it religously now!
