How do I access the power anntenae area? I need to replace it.
I have a 1982 911SC and I need to replace it. How do I gaine access to the antennae? Do I go through the fender panel behind the front passenger wheel?

redstormcoach, you are correct. It's simple, especially if you jack the car up and remove the wheel. You'll have acres of room in there if you do that. The other alternative is to just turn the steering wheel over hard to the right, which will move the aft part of the tire inboard, freeing up some space.
I did this job on my '84 two years ago. |

How do you disconnect the antenna? Does it come through the fender/body to the radio in one piece or does the wiring come off some how within the fender?

Frankly, you're asking questions that suggest this isn't a job you should undertake.

The antenna cable from the antenna itself threads through a grommet in the inner fender wall, through to the trunk area right next to the hood strut. You can't miss it. If you fish around for it back there, you should find it. Also, you'll need to figure out which two wires (of the many) emanating from the radio control the "power" part of the antenna.

Thanks. This is one of many "day one" projects I planned and never did in favor of suspension replaces, engine drops, back dating, H4 installing, top recovering..... I guess I'm running out of things to do. ![]()

I might add if you pull real hard on the antenna cable there's a good chance you'll pull the male plug right off the end of the cable. The grommets a stiff and very tight fitting. I would certainly spray them with some lubricant before trying to remove the cable. Sometimes it's better to remove the grommet first, then remove the cable from the grommet.
