1971 911t and 1963 912 bargain

OK I just found these two cars for sale on the side of the road they both have about 40000 original miles. Anyone want to chime in on what they are worth. I will say this, I don't really know the value, but I was tempted to hand the guy a check on the spot.

Location undisclosed.

Way too little information to even guess--you gotta throw us some crumbs here, better yet, pictures!

BTW, it's probably a typo but there were no 912's in 1963. Did you mean 1968?

Saratoga, side of the road, 40000 original miles........hmmmm, given the weather conditions, salt and snow plows and the the low mileage interpreted as they haven't moved in decades, I would say ....not much, however, if he just pulled them out of his barn and polished them up and put a for sale sign on them for the summer, that could mean much more.

More info, and what town?

The guy said 1963? he did say it was the first one made? I guess maybe a 1965 model year?

The conditions are good, not driven in years, no reason to believe they ever saw snow or that the mileage has been altered.

There are so many variables that affect the value that there is no way anyone can come close to helping you without more information. I understand you not wanting to disclose too much for fear of losing the chance of a purchase, but unless you want to rely on your admitted limited knowledge, some specifics need to ge given

"The conditions are good, not driven in years, no reason to believe they ever saw snow or that the mileage has been altered."

The above really doesn't help much either--too subjective. Tell us about: rust; paint (color, condition, matching code); engines (numbers, type, original to car,); interior (cracked dash, seat condition, carpet, headliner); wheels (alloy or steel), etc.

Any of the above items will help determine value, otherwise, you're on your own

You say you wanted to hand him a check, this indicates he had an asking price. So, how much was he asking?

An early "T" might be worth anything from nothing at all to $35,000 if in top shape.

It surely is not a 1963.

Post the VINs and engine #'s here. Probe the cars for rust. Take a few pics and post here.

That will at least allow us to narrow thing a bit.

Only a careful checkover by a good prof. who is FAMILIAR with the EARLY 911 can come anywhere close to telling you the real value.

Maybe we could make a graph using a database of information where you simply press the options that apply to your situation and it generates a market value, then you could do it in a secret dark room where no one could spy on you, I have a team of cloaked agents right now scouring the entire tri-state area for those cars, and if I find them I am going to hand the guy a check and you will never see them again.

Mu hah ha aha ha ha ha haha a hah a hhh haha!

Shhhhhhhh......be warry warrry quiet.....were hunting wabbits.

Just some silliness above to lighten things up.

Randy’s advice is right on – we need more information. In the past year I have seen ’71 911Ts that if I were paid to take them, I would decline. I also inspected a ’71 silver coupe that I sold new and it just now has a 2nd owner at 71,000 miles. It is still as I remember it 20 years ago. The difference in value is astounding. Remember, this is a well cared for, garaged, Colorado car, not exposed to the rigors of new England winters.

The ‘red flag’ in your post is the “1963 912”. It is either a 1963 356B T6 or a 1965-1969 912. It can’t be both. In either case the above admonition applies – some rusty, prior crashed, poorly repaired and not maintained cars can’t be economically restored.

Your eye and a digital camera can go a long way to separating the good from the bad. That pair of cars could be worth low six-figures or not be worth your time, energy or any investment. Generally speaking these are a ‘labor of love’ and not necessarily a profitable enterprise.

I recommend you go back and take pictures, probe for rust and prior crash repair. Give the seller some refundable deposit money if it seems worth progressing farther.

Try this link:

Before you complete the purchase, have an expert do a through Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI). That means someone who REALLY knows these cars.

Best,
Grady

Hi - I'm in Saratoga too. Having a project 912 I've learned about some areas to look at, and I could take a look too. No interest (as mandated by wife and daughter) in acquiring additional Porsches.

Thanks guys, I'm very appreciative of the offers. This weekend got away from me, I will not be able to break away for at least another week.

The cars are in Cambridge, outside next to the pharmacy in front of the liquor store. After further consideration I am going to pass; saving up for the Turbo.

Washington County's in my territory so I'll try and justify a reason to get out there and I'll take some pics. Also the local PCA ice cream drive is in that area this weekend.
