As a parent of a child with Down syndrome, I support the National Down Symdrome Congress or National Down Symdrome Society or even the local chapter of Down Symdrome Association - Los Angeles but I also support CFF. I can contact NDSC, NDSS or DSA-LA if you need me too. Just let me know.

any parts and pieces i have laying around that could be used, i would happily donate to a charity project. also i'm game for any actual resto/ refurb work that i could do off-site. sounds like fun for a great cause.

That would seem to be a logical, perfect endeavor to pursue...let's do it !!!

Glad someone with "mad skills" has finally stepped up and admitted to such. I'm still awaiting the final word on the charity but should know something by the end of the week.

Then we can start 'the list' . . .

Wow, Keith . . . thanks for sharing that. I just had the opportunity to read both the original thread and CB's updates. That's precisely the type of good we can perpetuate through this community; if anyone else is unfamiliar with the Bennett story, I highly recommend following the link above. Makes my day.

I'm in Modesto Ca

I own an upholstery shop that specializes in European cars. I can supply the labor to do some of the interior. My 11 year old daughter is a cancer survivor (Thanks to the wonderful people at the Oakland Children's Hospital) so I am always willing to help a good cause.

I'm more than willing to help, my car building skills aren't so good, in fact I can only do some jobs by following a book.

But, I'm fairly skilled with a milling machine, programming and running cnc milling centers everyday. I would be more than willing to do machine work for hard to come by parts or custom details - even if only engraving a plaque.

Are you going to choose the charity. or will there be a poll. This would then give all who help a say in the choice of charity. Maybe a final 3 to choose from.

Anyway, great idea and sign me up.

Matt

Post the eventual charity group/type. I contribute much, and really am into 'battered children', 'orphanage', or any similar type.

Until then, I am subscribing to this thread.

Great idea.

Amazing. The generosity and kindness is inspiring and humbling. I can't even change my oil, but the goodness in this thread forced me to post (and admit that I'm not handy) up a .

If there are ways to help other than getting their hands dirty.....

What a great idea! As an Open Source zealot and community participant, I gladly support the idea as much as I can. Unfortunately, another may need to restore my "restoration" efforts after I'm done, but I'm glad to pitch in.

After the program is underway, consider some press releases to generate additional steam. I brag about the earlier community restoration regularly, even though I wasn't part. Pelican is a model community and an example to the world. People should know this.

Our charity, the National Down Syndrome Congress, has gotten a "thumbs up" from those in the know. Their mission is to, "Empower people with Down syndrome by creating a national climate in which all people will recognize and embrace the value and dignity of people with Down syndrome."

I haven't approached them yet with the details of this project but will be doing so in the coming week. Questions needing answers include the tax issues surrounding the project, specifically whether or not it is necessary to drive any such activity through the organization in order to claim it, and what type of involvement the charity would like. I for one am not doing this for tax purposes, but do understand that some people/corporations might need that extra motivation in order to contribute to their utmost ability. Still looking for suggestions on the right car for our purposes. It needs to be something affordable up front but able to sell for $25k-$30 when finished. I'm not sure a 1970 911 would fit this bill but noticed several for sale around the internet including one in our very own classifieds selling for $1200.

Also need thoughts on the best way to sell the car once complete, whether it be Barrett-Jackson or another auction house or even some sort of controlled-ticket raffle. This might be the end of this thread as I think one surrounding the organizational aspect of the project is in order.

Thumbs up

That car definitely looks like a solid start and a great choice of charity, only good can come from this.

It would be amazing if the actual SN drive train for that car were found.
