914 vs 911 Thread...
Hi Guys
I know there was a thread going at one stage comparing and contrasting the 911 and 914-6. The search function won't let me search 3 digit numbers ![]() Does anyone have a link? Otherwise this is now the official 911 vs 914 thread

Thanks Pter, that was one of them - there are a couple more touching on relative values, collectability, authenticity etc...
I need to consider the pros and cons of running a genuine 914-6 over a 911 (I can't have both) ![]() Hey Randy - sure. Due to the Coriolis phenomina, our left tyres wear quicker than our right side

The man who penned the 914 was a full time refrigerator designer. Guess he needed some side work. I'm just sorry it didn't work out. I'm still looking for ice cube trays - perhaps they are in the hell hole.

I've gotta admit the 914 is no beauty. A couple of nick names I've given to my car will not pass the censor muster on this site. That said, "toaster" is a good one....with 9elebens being the muffy....er....muffin.

I think the platform was better than the 911, just like the cayman is a better platform than a 997.....
![]() But, they suffered the "vw/porsche" thing and are a wee bit fugly. But I like fugly, hence I hope someday to build a hot-rod 914 with a motor similar to my 911..... Cheers

I've owned both. I find myself gravitating back to the better of the two ... the 914/6.

This is a nice 914/6
Very nice and evolving nicely too! That can't be a current shot in Mosier though. The weather looks too nice.

I own a 74 914 1.8l. Wish it was a 2.0, but fun anyway. I really considered buying a 914-6 instead of the '87 3.2 that now sits next to the old 914, but my driving situation was one in that I needed a little more day to day reliability (or at least less maintenance - and easier access when that maint was required).
My 914 has traits which I like more and less than my 911, albeit it is a poor comparison as there is a 13 year difference between the two. Given the same power as my 911, I am not sure which I would like more. |

My alltime favorite dream car is an early 911. Always was and always will be. But with that being said, I love my 914 too! It is ugly, but no uglier than an early 911 Targa. IMHO. I think it is ugly enough to be cool looking. And why argue of which to own? Get one of each! I am searching for a '69 Ghia coupe to finish the straight.
![]() 1. 911 2. 356 (Very close 2nd) 3. 914 / Ghia (tied for 3rd!)
