My apologies...
for not following the rules about introducing myself properly.
I've been around Pelican for a while but thought I'd do a proper intro to start off the new year right. My Porsche experience started off with the car you see here: ![]() Yes, it was a down and out Alfa. My son and I took it on as a restoration project when he was younger. We managed to horse trade our way into this car: ![]() Which eventually led us to this Porsche: ![]() With a lot of work and help from the 912bbs gang, we were able to change it into this: ![]() With old age creeping in on my left knee, operating a clutch became a thing to avoid. Lucky for me my brother KD had an SC with a Sportomatic that he was looking to move. He liked the 912 enough that he was willing to make a swap with me for this: ![]() I've had the car just a year now as we made the swap last year over the holidays. So far it's had some suspension work done, new tires and a good tune-up. It's a blast to drive, even in traffic. So, there you have it. Another old fart with a yellow 911.

Welcome! Beautiful cars. My dad was an Alfa man so I enjoy seeing those. Your first Porsche ended up gorgeous, as is your recent one. Well done! And again, welcome!

Hey Doug, you ol' coot, it's about time you made your entrance "official"
. "Rufus" (the first Porsche shown) never looked so good and I'm glad it's still in your family. Your new car ("Ol' Yeller???) looks sweet with the wheel color and ride height. Looking forward to seeing you again soon and welcome, officially! BTW, thanks again for the tip on the 72--too bad I can't afford it, though it's still up for sale. Larry

Hi Doug, I too started with an Alfa. Had a 1967 Duetto 1600 for twelve years. Fun cars.

Now that is Cool! I seem to have followed the same path. Just couldn't afford a Porsche at the time so I purchased this.....
![]() 1992 Spider Veloce. Nice car, but not enough performance at this altitude....and I didn't fit! Yours is great looking! Both em' Karl 88 Targa |

Thanks!
Kathy - that black car wasn't my first Porsche, this one was:
![]() It needed so much cosmetic work that my wife gave me permission to look for another car (the black one) to put the drivetrain into. My son took on the job of bringing back the paint on the black one and succeeded in giving me a nice gift in the process. It ended up a shiney black sunroof coupe! Old car restoration is a great way for dads to get involved with their kids, if the kids are willing to partake in the adventure. We were given the yellow Alfa as a finders fee. Sold it for $300 less than we paid for the blue Alfa. We then horse traded it for the brown 912. I bought the black 912, my son and I switched all the mechanicals over from the brown one and we horse traded it away. Talbot is now in the garage and is everything I'd hoped for in a specialty car. Larry - I look forward to catching up with you soon.

Hi Scott,
Good to see you here . You know I love your SC, and this past week I finally got a Sporto coupe of my own (but that's a topic for another thread as I haven't followed those rules either). As a result I've offered to help maintain and support the little sportomatic.org website. Though I imagine most of the technical info, parts exchange etc. can be found here and elsewhere, it might be nice to have a registry of Sporto cars on the road there if only to promote a sense of camraderie (sp?) and to identify those of us who have them. I'd be glad to hear your thoughts - PM if you wish. Those are nice Alfas and a good-looking 912 (might be a good look for my 911...hmm...). Ed |

The site doesn't appear to have been updated for a long while, but it would be great to see it back in action. It'd be great to create a big FAQ page with links to relevant Pelican threads (with Wayne's permission of course). Expanding the existing owner's list to a registry is also a good idea.

The site still holds some good basic info and it'd be nice to be able to link to more current info as well. For example, the British Porsche mags have run several articles on Sporto cars in recent years, some of which lessened my fears of diving in and buying one. edit: I updated my sig today and I see that vash and I have another car in common, though mine's not "for the little lady." A nice little sleeper and good value for money.

Thanks!
Thanks for the welcome everybody.
I guess you'd say I really don't fit the demographic for owning a Porsche so I had to do it the cheapest way I could. ![]() The best part about the 912 was the gaping hole in the roof that opened when you pressed the little button on the dash. That and the Duane Spencer built motor really make it a fun car. Ed, glad to hear you've taken the plunge! I'll PM you when I get some time about a little something an ELECTRICAL eng'r friend of mine came up with.
