That #46 Testarossa is an old favorite at the races. Phil Hill raced it a couple times...but that car always seems to race with restrain.... understandably to AVOID incidents such as this.

[QUOTE=TRE Cup;
some details on the flying ferrari
Last year the owner paid over 14 MILLION for it at the auction. He has participated in the historics since the beginning. He has a long standing bet with another monterey regular on who will be the guy who has raced in the most there. Now we can add the dubious distinction of most air time too ![/QUOTE]

it will be interesting to see how the future events unfold. The organizer, steve earle is retiring (or being retired by outside forces, if you believe some stories!) after 36 years of putting this event on.

The new guys are true racers and we will see how the change takes effect.

This is similar to the Chicago Historic Races that used to be put on by one individual and he got squeezed out. I cannot comment how it got better, or worse, but that event lives on

Regarding the parade laps, some of you may have noticed the sheriff escorts to keep speeds down and the flow even. In the past , some individuals who shall remain nameless , took to slowing waaay down so they could send their RSR's thru the corkscrew at speed during the parade laps.

#9 - Flying Ferrari TR 0754

wait,wait...not so fast...maybe it's a slight mix-up of TR's?....this TR 0754 is owned by David Love from the S.F area...He has in fact owned this very same car since the -70's/early-80's...he has over the years participated in most vintage races out here in California including Coronado Classics in San Diego....I have no idea how rich/poor he is, but I do know he is a regular "car guy" who has been racing "regular"sportscars a long time...he doesn't fit the stereotype "rich Ferrari-guy" picture at all...he actually didn't even want this car when he got it!!...he saved and scraped together money and finally placed an order for a "Bird cage" Masserati...but it was delayed numerous times until he got a little more persistent towards the dealer who said...Ok, take this one for now...we'll deal with the switch to the Birdcage later"...that was a long time ago when a Birdcage, or for that matter, a TR was w/i financial reach for a regular car guy...He does his own regular maintenance, oil changes at the track is common,he is very calm, answers all questions from anyone, his car always open for people to view and is a very descent person to boot....I'm sure this hurts and I feel for him...Here is a picture from happier times...Last years Historics.../ Lars...

I think the early 908 is one of the most intoxicating race cars ever in looks and sound. Just a simple and effective brute:

A few Pics

Ed Hughes, sorry I missed you at Tarpy's and I hear you were not feeling well. We arrived late. My friends car sold below (356-930) which I'm sure he is sad about. Here are a couple of pics from me.

Anyone out there have pictures of my car please email me at x98boardwell@yahoo.com. There were several people taking photos during the parade lap so if you have them I would like to see them.

Great meeting all of you.

Bryan

How do you guys like my shirt? I thought it was a good idea but not too many people noticed it. I think Wayne should give me a line of credit for free advertising. I made a white and a grey one.

And to think I had a unused B1 paddock parking permit - elected to park out at the 911 corral instead.

Had I known someone who'd have liked to park out mid-paddocks, I'd have obliged.

Lars, good catch. Yes, that is Mr. Love and he has actually owned that car from about 1960. Although I have not spoken to him directly, I believe that he bought the wreck from the trees in the corkscrew (literally) that year. Well, if not literally, then shortly thereafter IIRC. Long time owner/racer, regular guy, and true enthusiast. Gotta love it.
