Monterey Historic Races-Aug. 14-16...roll call/info
This is coming up before we know it, and if you've not made your arrangements yet, you need to. Porsche is the featured marquee this year, so its going to attract some notable people and cars. That is not to say this event is a slouch any other year!
There is a Porsche Corral sponsored by PCA Monterey Bay Region that you can get into by going here, early registration ends 5/31: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.advert/uidEvent/82BA9CE3-AABC-E751-F2AA487A528CC5B8 Wayne had mentioned something about a Pelican-sponsored event somewhere along the line, but I don't think I've seen anything since. I'm going to trailer my car up, arriving some time Friday afternoon 8/14, spend the day at the track on Saturday and head home Sunday morning. I wish I had more time to take in some of the other Peninsula activities that week, but I won't. If you don't have lodging, you'll be scrounging at this point and paying a pretty penny to stay in the vicinity. Remember the Pebble Beach Concours, the auctions, Concours Italiano and a bunch of other events all happen this week. There is another thread, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=442211&page=2&highlight=laguna+seca , that started on camping and some other info, but I thought I'd start a new one with the basics.

Wayne, thanks for posting that; we at least know to plan for this. Sounds like a great Friday to me. Now I know to either drive up Thursday nite or really early Friday.

Thought I'd bump this up.....5 weeks to go!
I'm headed north from San Diego Thursday afternoon-probably to spend the night in Paso Robles or similar that night. Then up to the Monterey area for Wayne's Friday wine drive. Saturday at the Porsche Corral and home on Sunday. Ruby will be on the trailer for the ride up and back.

I may join you. I need to make sure my 93 County LWB is up to the task of trailering my 911 up and back. Will keep you posted. I can leave Thursday afternoon as well....already took Friday off.

Cool. I have a hotel in Salinas for Friday and Saturday night. When Wayne's deal came up, I tried to extend the stay to include Thursday night. They wanted more for that one night than I pay for Friday and Saturday. So, I figured PR is a good destination for the night.

This looks like a lot of fun. I usually go to the pre historics and skip the historics. However, the pelican tour sounds like fun ... I wonder if it is to late to get lodging at a reasonable price. I could dust off the old 74 911 and head down for some fun.
Where are people staying there? It would be nice to leverage someone else's investigation into best hotel for parking. I have never left my car parked outside overnight anywhere since it was restored... . Last edited by Larry_Ratcliff; 07-11-2009 at 06:59 AM.. |

I've only been once, and paid big $ for what I'd consider a budget motel at best, in Salinas. The funny thing was, the entire place was full of everything from '32 Hot Rods to new SL AMG Roadsters. Obviously, there is always some risk, but it seems like the entire area is full of nice cars.
I'm staying at the Good Nite Inn in Salinas.

I wonder if I can bring a tent and a sleeping bag and camp out next to my car at laguna seca (actually being serious but I suspect not allowed)

There is camping there! I'm not sure if they are sold out, but that may be an option.

We'll be driving from SLC and camping at Grand Prix #129 F-S-S. Are we having a Pelican gathering at the track?

Maybe we shoot for meeting up for a couple of beers or Dinner Friday? We "organized" a dinner of Pelicans at the 2006 race.

I'm going up Friday and will spend Saturday and Sunday at the track. I'm staying at my in-laws B&B in Templeton (just north of Atascadero). They might have rooms available so if anyone needs a place to stay, shoot me a PM. Templeton is about 110 miles from the track......

What say you all to a dinner Friday or Saturday nite?
We ate here last time, it is about 4 miles west of the main entrance to the track on Hwy 68: http://tarpys.com/ Decent place, nice beer list and not outrageously expensive. We had a big outdoor table last time.
