My first Porsche was an 89 because that's what people/forums/books recommended. Finally wised up and piurchased the best driving and maintained car I could find for fair price. 82SC!

IMHO, you don't have to think when you shift the G-50. You just do it.

Definitely go with the better car. You'll get used to whatever tranny you happen to have. And if the G50 and 915 feel the same to you, then maybe there's something wrong with the G50, or you have an especially nice 915! (just kidding - but all the more reason just to go with the car that feels best overall).

I like the G50 over the 915,..it was a step upward (less "difficulties").
...I also like 30 year old Scotch.........(and rightfully so...less "difficulties".....) Best, Doyle

I prefer the G50 because when I'm getting my Sammy Hagar on (I can't drive), I might accidentally forget that reverse is where 6th-speed would be

Buy the one that feels, looks, and drives better. I like the feel of my 915, but would not let a transmission dictate my choice.

Ever driven a 930 motor married to a 915? One word: Heaven. They last longer than conventional wisdom would have you believe.

Spend for a PPI on both. Might get a discount for two. That will reveal things you won't initially see.

Regardless of the choice that was made, it turned out to be a good investment!

I'll add, the G50 is easier when leisure/slow-shifting, the 915 wins when on it. (feels lighter)

I got an '86 because I found one in great shape for 25% less money than a G50 car. The '86 was also local.

Own and drive both. Honestly, it is a push for me. I like aspects of both. The G50 is definitely more tidy and confidence-inspiring when downshifting, but the clutch pedal seems a bit heavy compared to the 915.
The marketplace puts a premium on G50's so if resale matters that is something to consider.

And, in a bit of 2009 irony:
I like my 3.2, l like my G50, and I like having a cab. To each their own I guess. __________________ Luis "once was - Wickd89" Carrera 3.2 - "Faster, Stronger, Better" -- 2008 Toyota Camry SE V6 (mine) -- 2005 Toyota Sienna (hers) -- 1989 911 Carrera Cabriolet -SOLD Nice job, Luis!
