I use standard hardware store O rings. I think there purpose is to prevent water intrusion.
The O rings seem to work fine. Rob |

Rob, do you have a specific reference or sizing of the O-Rings that work for you? Especially since the VW part appears to be going extinct.

Just a follow-up on the VW part. I'm a while away from reinstalling, but will post a final update then.
Meantime, here's the comparison to what I disassembled. The original has an L-shaped cross section. The VW part is more conical, although being flexible silicone it will conform better (I guess). ![]()

I found that the new VW one makes the lock difficult to turn unless you set the screw with the proper tension and then use blue Locktite. I did not try adding a bit of lubrication to the o-ring, however.

Interesting. That hasn't been my experience at all. My locks are also well lubed with dry teflon spray.

I used Wurth HHS Plus to lightly lubricate the cylinder and moving areas. I found the plastic spacer was not correctly installed into the cylinder, which caused the binding. Everything is tight and smooth now.
Here are some photos of how it should look. ![]()

Does anyone have a reference on how to adjust the long spring that pushes back on the handle switch used under your finders? I see there is an adjustment, and my left-handed mechanism is smoother than the right. I only noticed they are adjusted a few mm differently.

I do not recall any adjustment, but the stiffness is a common problem. Remove the handle, clean and lube. While your in there lube the the door lock. Don’t put this off too long, as the inner guide of the handle becomes damaged. Rob

Which vendor has the VW gaskets, as I haven't found a US supplier?

It seems they are approaching extinction. In my search 2-months ago, I could only find a few on eBay. Every commercial source was coming up NLA.
Also, Please read my caution about eBay listings: (note: Be careful on eBay. Some vendors list items with reasonable or low prices, then super crazy shipping. I've seen similar behavior on Amazon. One listing had these for $8 ea.... with $190 shipping!!) https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/487293-door-lock-cylinder-gaskets.html#post12520324 |

Rob (30westrob) mentioned using common hardware store o-rings. I hope he can provide more details or even a package sku for the ones he uses.
