![]() This is my 1980 SC. Pushing over 280,000 miles and it's a daily driver. I like how reliable it is. It does require maintenance and things do break, but it really is dependable enough to be driven every day. I love the agile steering, road holding ability, generous brakes... It simply drives well. And the sound... addicting. The engineering and build standards were so high on these cars that they hold up to a lot of use and abuse and can be rebuilt so easily. This forum is part of why I like the car so much - it's easy to fix stuff but the knowledge shared that helps you pull the job off is outstanding. Set-up as a worn stock car, it doesn't run with the newer cars that have superior suspensions and more powerful motors, but it's from the early 80's, and there isn't another car from that period that I'd even consider driving instead - especially as a daily driver. |

![]() Why do I love my SC Targa? -It's simultaneously the most irritating and rewarding thing I've ever owned -The driving experience, no substitute. -I've tackled many mechanical and paint oriented projects I hadn't previously -It's given me a greater breadth of appreciation for all types of cars -Helped me understand there's a lot more to a car than BHP figures -Sounds, no muffler, no cat, sounds incredible -Smell of an old interior, a hot air-cooled engine, the exhaust, oil, heat...AWESOME. -People are drawn to it, little kids to grumpy old men...all want to talk and know more -MILFS love it ![]() -Oh, and it's appreciating, so the wife is cool with me $pending on it.

My SC has a smell and feel about it that is fabulous. The interior has always had its own distinctive smell, a very "German" car smell to me. No leather so its not that.
Driving it has always been a blast, it is tight and quick and stops great. I have owned it almost 21 years.

![]() ![]() ![]() Her replacement... 1979 widebody 911SC "Marilyn" ![]() ![]() ![]() I also took everything off of Corky's chassis and is making it's way to a '77 chassis. That one is named "Gretchen" because she's an angry German B*tch. She's not ready for the spotlight.

I bought my 82 sc two years ago. to me it was the Porsche I always bring to mind when I think of Porsche. after I got it home and started looking on the web here and other places I started feeling like a second class Porsche owner. it seemed that having an sc was not a cool Porsche.
I love my car. I am proud to own a 911 sc. glad to see others who feel the same.

I'll play. Had a 73S (not bragging, just fact) which was a raw fun car. The 82 SC OTOH does just about everything so much better - that's what's what 9 years of development will do. No obnoxious wind noise in the cabin, stops great, a far more refined suspension, a much more comfortable car. What I would knock is the initial lack of torque and snappyness, but losing 125 lbs and switching to SSIs and a sport muffler goes a long way. Add intermittent wipers and cruise control (AC was yanked the 2nd week I had it) go along way towards being more civilized. The SC is not a barnstormer but it has enough zip to be fun and a great car for all day drives. They are truly great cars.
