cone air filter

Where would I buy an adapter plate with the oil tank vent line connections that now attach to my air box, so I may install a cone type KN filter. Or is their another way? Thanks Philip

Are you looking for a hot-air induction system?

A) K&N filters flow a lot of air, but don't filter very well.
B) A cone filter will take hot air from the engine compartment, offsetting any benefit, IMO.

Do a google search on K&N for your particular P-car, there's a lot of vendors out there who have what you're looking for.

On another note, you may want to do a search on this site under "K&N" or "cold air intake". You will learn an awful lot before you decide to take that leap.

It's simple to adapt your breather line to the K&N, first off: make sure that your K&N will not impede on your rear hood shock ( filter too long).
Use a dremel and simply make a small 5/16" dia bore into the side (neoprene) neck of the filter. Then push in a 1/4 (pipe size) x 1/2" push over (hose nipple) fitting into the hole. Your vent hose will push right onto the nipple and your good to go. If you need to buy the right size hi-flow cone filter , with the adapter in it >> call me at 818-507-6937. These are properly sized for our MSDS kits and cost $50.00, adapter base not included.
As far as the hi flow air kits that we build, they must be worth something; the top podium finshers in POC orange group are all rolling with my filter kits, and Aase engines of course!

Hi Marty,
Is the stock oil hose ID 1/4"?
Do you have any picture of the hi flow cone you were talking about?
Thanks.

K&N is not a performance upgrade, sounds nice but that is all. (so does making holes in the airbox lid or trimming it down all the way until you just have the edges wit the the clips left)
OEM paper filters filter very good, and allow more than enough air to pass.

Switching to a cone filter will not result in your engine taking in massive amounts of hot air.
When driving, the air in the engine bay is being refreshed/sucked out by the turning fan in such a rate that the temp inside the engine bay barely exceeds ambient/outside temperature.
The difference in intake airtemp when using a stock airbox or a cone filter is marginal.
Someone here on the board has taken temperature readings. (search function will come up with that thread)

I made this for my SC.... No power gain and lost some drivable... (revs dropped too quickly, often stalling)
I know it's ugly but that wasn't the point.

I'm back to the stock setup now.

I know your car has a different FI setup... If you go ahead with it I hope you get better results than me.

This is an interesting topic as it causes me to ask the question "What is the difference between HOT AIR INDUCTION and COLD AIR INDUCTION when it comes to a 911?".

May be a stupid question, but I've heard both terms on this forum and would like to know the difference. Based upon the comments from Geronimo (above), I would have thought the 911 has massive amounts of HOT AIR in the engine compartment.

The only (and very good) benefit you'll get is more accessibility to engine compartment. I've installed a cone filter on my 84. No gain in perf. but gain in accessibility and look.

A cone filter on a 911 isn't really a cold air intake. The filter would have to be relocated to a fender well to use cooler air than the engine compartment. Doesn't really seem possible in a 911.

A lot of people think that when you install a cone filter, the engine will "inhale" hot(ter) air because you delete the factory airbox with the curved tube that is connected to it. (that is why Roc Doc made the "hot air induction" remark. It was a joke...)
Said curved tube is supposed to allow only "cold" air from near the decklid grill into the combustionchambers.
Experience teaches us that because the fan rushes so much air thruogh the engine bay, that air temperature is about the same everywhere and is only marginaly higher than ambient, outside temperature.
Hence it makes very little difference whether you use the stock set up or a cone filter.
Important is that the stock filter does a very good job filtering (better than cone filters) while letting through more then enough air. The cone filter will make your car sound throatier but will not give more HP. It does look nicer IMO and will let you acces things more easily in there.

The best way to make yourself aware of all of the possibilities out there, is to do a full research on this topic. From the $19.00 ebay filters to the $1,000.00 oe Porsche "Motorsound package"...which is basically a stock airbox with holes punched in it (yes a Factory option ). I have seen the $19.00 air filters disintegrate into $15,000.00 engines and that's an ugly site. I can't divulge the mfg. of our hi-flow filters, but due to some design elements such as pleat design, cfm ratings, etc., these are miles ahead of K &Ns and NO comparison to the $19.00 ebay counterfeits out there.
Sorry that this has gone Off Topic, but to the thread starter...use the dremel for your vent line.

And why can't divulge this mysterious MFG...if miles ahead of K&N...do us a favor....

Up to eight HP, what a joke...

on the website it states the stock air box weighs as much as eight lbs ,
and you can gain up to eight hp

maybe in their world a loss of 8 lbs is equal to a 8 hp gain

weight to hp ratio ??
