S.o.s

I was changing the oil on my 911SC, 3.6 conversion. Never done it before on this engine. When I was removing the drain plug on the engine the whole thing sprang out and I'm not sure about how to reassemble it. Did I remove something needlessly?

Pictures:

Which is the right way?

A)

B)

Thank you for you assistance !

You removed the oil pressure relief spring and piston. Not, a problem, put it back in.

Edit: And not like pic "B".

And keep looking for your drain plug! Fun, huh?

looks to me like you mistook one of the oil pressure relief valves as a drain plug. Should go together easy.

Perfect example of what is easy for one is impossible for another \

who'd of thought of pulling the relief and thinking its the drain, don't fill the tranny with motor oil, it won't shift very well.

Bravo for trying but try reading and asking questions first, you won't look like an a-s for asking but this makes you look like a : well at least you tried.

I believe "B"

later

Steve ... .

drain plug is on the bottom

Wait until someone confirms "Pic B" though.

Thanks for the quick reply! I knew it was not the right plug but I didn't know what it was and how to correctly put it together.

I still can't find the #@*^% plug !!

Can you post some pics of the bottom of your engine?
I think the drain plug is actually on the horizontal on a 3.6, but that's just a guess on my part.

Here, this is fun:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/PartsLookup/Parts_Lookup_Main_Page.htm

There are two "pressure relief" springs. If you removed the one that's oriented vertically, then it goes together like this:

If you removed the one that's horizontal then it goes like this:

And, as you found out, the drain plug isn't always vertically oriented!

Left side of case, bright shiny washer under the head of the plug in your picture. The boss on the right side of the case directly opposite of the plug looks to be blank.

The one with the case numbers? . Not much room shooting under the car. Which area do you want to see ?

Thanks for you interest,
