While the "Bahama-mama" is in production, I'm having a great time playing with several small details, including these beauties made by Jimmy Tidwell:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412116034.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412116068.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412116101.jpg Titanium lug nuts! They are so light & beautiful, makes me want to wear them around my neck. (yah, nuts around my neck) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412116554.jpg So, just out of curiosity I weighed them to see what the differences would be: Steel = 1.2 oz. Aluminum = .6 oz. and the Ti = .7 oz. Jimmy offers them in two post-production finishes: glass bead blasted or the machined finish (above). If you're a detail-freak and noticed the blemish on the threads, it is not a defect, just rubber scrapings from the hose it was on. ;) The details on these nuts are spectacular! Go get some. |
I've been resisting. How much?
|
It's inevitable. $10/pc.

Here's another small detail I just finished - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412170396.jpg
Had a smaller diameter Carrera steering wheel laying around so I cut the ring off and welded the center hub & spokes from my factory wheel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412170455.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412170487.jpg Transferred all the rubber grip padding to make up the diameter of the wheel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412170538.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412170562.jpg Added additional felt to finish the grip and to achieve the "thick grip." http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412171233.jpg Painted the spokes: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412171399.jpg Had a custom leather wrap made up: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412171490.jpg And stitched till the cows came home. Much harder than I thought - the Youtube videos made it seem so easy! |
You're a mad man Mr Blee. Make sure you never change that about yourself. ;)
|
Very impressive - i just read through all of this post and you have come such a long way - i applaud your vision and your perseverance. Can't wait to see it all complete and happy.
|
Thank you gentlemen. Here's the finished product with the correct part # & date in tact:

Thank you for the encouraging words gents!
Rich - noticed the new addition to the stable. What's a '12 Boss 302? Or is it a '72 Boss 302? Good thing you have that honkin' garage. |
Brian, that would be this...2012 Boss 302. Big fun.

Updates?
You gotta be close to done...right? |
Close.
Gotta finish fuel tank mod; finish re-finishing the wheels; slap the motor & tranny in; then some wiring; door panels; re-spray the driver door (I'll tell you later.)... Hmmmm, maybe not close? I hope to have it on the road before summer is over. |
Brian, if you ever need any help, I have every day off.
|
Rich, how do you feel about restoring a '69S? ;) I have never-y day off.

Still here.
Embarrassing, but I gotta share... The magic moment came the other day - got the car started for the first time in six years!!!!! What an incredible day! The clouds parted, the sun shone and doves were fluttering about. I even heard the "holy light sound.":o So I'm sitting in the car, feathering the throttle, my wife rushes out after hearing the beast roar to life and flashes the "thumbs up" sign. I'm grinning ear to ear, happier than all-get-out. Then it happened - she yells, what is that leaking under the car? As you can imagine, my heart stopped. In a nano-second I shut off the car and leaped out to see what appeared to be at least 5-quarts of liquid gold on the floor! Fu__ _ _ _ __ __k!!!#@!$&!! Who wants to guess what happened? .......I forgot to install the OC61. Yup, oil filter. Not only was there oil all over the floor, there was oil all over the clean motor - all over the new tins, the carbs, fan shroud, freshly painted engine bay, dripping down the newly ceramic-coated headers and new DANSK Sport muffler - you get the ugly picture. What a dumb ass. Over the next several hours, I feverishly used every rag I could find in the house to sop-up all the oil as best as I could - dis-assembled everything, sopped-up some more oil and gently used "oil eater" and water to remove all the oil residue. I spent hours, sweating and working like a maniac to clean up the horrible mess I created. My wife comes back out to remind me that I need to take a break and to come have some lunch. I laid down the hose, exhausted, drenched with sweat, disgusted at myself and went in the house. Things get worse. As we're sitting there eating, we hear the noise of running water coming from outside. I experienced a second heart-stoppage that same day. I ran out and found the garden hose had ruptured and was shooting a geyser straight up, thirty-feet in the air. Fu_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _k!!!#$@!##$!! Water everywhere! Of course, I had laid down the hose next to the driver's side, with the window rolled down, so not only was the car drenched, there was water in the car. New sport seats wet, new carpet wet, door panels wet, and puddles on the floor pans and rear seat bottoms.:mad::mad::mad::mad: Could things get any worse? I don't think so. Fortunately, the car was painted inside & out so I was able to sop-up the water completely with relative ease and the thin Perlon RS carpets weren't hard to dry off. The new seats were not affected either, fortunately. My daughter walks out, smiles and says, "Hey dad - your car's waterlogged again!" Kids say the darnedest things.:) |
Your tale of woe and suffering made my day. It is indeed a million dollar story. As time passes, you'll cherish it. :)

Is there video?
I once put a lower profile oil filter in place of the larger Fram HP1 on my 912 race car because the HP1 was blocking access to one of the plugs. When I had CE do the full flow work on the 3rd piece, Walt said to only run Fram HP1 filters...ah, what does he know? On the first start, after rebuilding the motor and painting the engine compartment and tin, the new smaller filter exploded...blew the orange part right off the base. Oil was everywhere. Luckily, I had a deep sump installed so I reaped the benefit of even more oil spewing everywhere. 912's put out a respectable amount of oil pressure on cold starts. I feel your pain, but reading about it still made me smile. As a friend of mine would say, the hose was just icing on the crap cake. |
