Recommend Shop for Pan Replacement - Portland, OR
Can anyone recommend a shop to replace the front suspension pan/gas tank support on my 911? I want to make sure it's done right by a shop with experience with this sort of project.
Thanks!

No advice of my own, but what do the guys at Stuttgart Autotech, Marque Motors, Rothsport/Jeff Gamroth, Rennsport Systems/Steve Weiner all suggest?

Funny you should ask. I called two of them and got roughly the same evasive answer. Basically, the polite translation is they don't want to give the name of their guys out because this is typically a slow process and they don't want me holding up restorations they may be conducting.
I guess that's the consequence of doing most of the work on the car myself. ..but this project is way beyond my skills.

How about asking local PCA guys? Or someone over at Sunset Motors who's into older Porsches? I chatted with a salesman years ago and he had an 80s Carrera. Not suggesting he's necessarily still around, but someone's gotta be an air-cooled nut in that place.

There's Eurotech in Kirkland, WA. Would be a bit of a hike, but it's a thought.
I have to have the same thing done on my 911. All the best! Sharon

I cannot recommend shop as I have not needed to get this type of work done.
To my way of thinking, a shop with a Cellette Body rig and the correct fixtures is who you want. Precision Body (near Sunset Motors) has the rig but I do not know if they have the correct fixtures. Collision Rebuilders (503-226-6311) and Canyon Auto Rebody (887-489-2520) advertise in the local club mag. Maybe call them and get some references.

Collision Rebuilders did the pan in my 75s that I left behind when I moved to Montana. But that was 20 years ago. May not be owned by the same folks. You'd have to do some research.
One of the gentlemen on the list above uses Tualatin Auto Body. I might be having them do a little rust repair on my car. But then, maybe not. For the same $$ I can buy myself a new Miller wire feed.

Canyon Auto Rebody has the Cellette chassis jig...
I'm sure they could handle pan replacement, and they're reasonable on prices. They've worked on 911's many times before and have the proper 911 Cellette attachments.
I just had my '82 on the "rack" due to an old odd (under left front) hit that tweaked the tub a few mm here and there. They're a bit SE of Portland - I drove from Kennewick, WA. It took a while to get it back, which was o.k with me, I was insulating my shop at the time. I was happy with the results. I saved some $$ by performing some of the panel assembly by myself and by being patient. If you're in a hurry, tell Chris ahead of time and tell them of your expectations. |
