If I bought one, I would eliminate the heavy bumper shocks (on US versions). Even if it had the European crush tubes, I would STILL dump the bumpers and "back date" it to look like the earlier cars using fiberglass or carbon fiber parts of HIGH Quality.

IIRC, by '74 the stock seats were already the lighter versions without any horsehair so you may be ok there.

I would replace steel rear rear banana arms with Aluminum ones (or did the '74s already have Al?)

I would eliminate the CIS and either put on carbs or an electronic aftermarket fuel injection system.

I'd replace the nasty old hard, broken down rubber suspension bushings with the Elephant polybronze bushings.

Other than that, I would just be willing to fix all the things that always need replacement on an old car: brake hoses, transmission parts, etc.

So I would head for more power, better looks and lower weight for the motor to push around. It is not cheap to do this, so your dream may be costly.

Post any specific questions you have and tell us what version car it is or give the VIN
That's kind of what I have done with mine = although did not backdate. 74's are a great year.

I specifically looked for a 1974 car - non sunroof coupe.

No impact-shocks of bumperettes either.
I quite like it

I have the engine outside and I think the gearbox have a closed and locking relationship and a very lightweight flywheel. and have the question ??

where can buy ?? for a 915 gearbox,
I'd be happy to answer your question, however I really don't know what you are asking for?

I see you want something for a 915 gearbox,...........but you didn't say what this might be.

AshEvan,

I've NEVER seen that travel kit: I bought my '74 brand new and they never offered anything like that to me........thats VERY cool.

Nice car!!!

Note how your bumpers are mounted compared to US cars without the "smile" up front.

It really changes how these look, (in a good way).

Still has CIS.

The smiley is actually photoshopped brown. Didn't notice that when I posted the picture... I had some idea of trying to paint the smiley brown, but I havn't tried it out yet. The bumpers are cut and mounted 5 cm "closer to the body", front and rear on new alu mountings. I kind of like it myself, as the Man said.

If the car is as nice as it looks on the picture and in original condition it would be a shame to do anything to it. It is a unique classic. Don't mess with it

Yeah, I would imagine less than 10% even know they exist. I think the last year they made them was 76. I have a friend in Grongingen Holland and he paid about $2,400 for a NOS Travel Parts Kit for his 65. He was doing a frame off restoration that wa costing a mint. He wanted the kit purely for bragging rights as he would never use it, but nicely complimented his Stock Tool Kit. He displayed them side by side at a car show and had several offers for more than he paid.

Yes, just another Porschephile very rare "must have". Its a terrible sickness
