Hi Mike. Thanks for the award It may be a bit unfair considering all of the time that I have spent rebuilding this damn thing. Many of the ideas came from this forum so it is only fitting that I repay the community.

1. The hose connecting the oil tank to the Moroso unit is a portion of the original vent hose from the breather cover to the oil tank. I cut / sectioned a ~45 degree bend out of the hose and it fit perfectly. The original vent hose has a a bore of ~1" and the external thread on the Moroso tank is ~1" - so the fit was nearly perfect. I have since put clamps on the hose ends and it is secure and tight.

2. The elbow / barbed fitting in the bottom of the Moroso tank came from our local Manards store. It is a brass "street" elbow - which is essentially a male to female 90 deg. elbow. I cannot remember the actual thread size, but it is just a normal pipe thread. I screwed a 1/2" - male barb fitting into the elbow. For the Moroso drain / tap fitting that was originally in the Moroso tank - I brought a brass reducing bush and a 1/2" hose barb to female fitting. I have since turned the elbow in the bottom of the Moroso tank 180 deg so it is facing the front of the car and run a 3' length of 1/2" hose forward over the suspension cross member and down under the car. This way I have increased the catch can capacity (the hose will store fliud) and provided easy access to drain the fluid. I will try to get some pictures of the finished setup if anyone is interested.

The spacers are made out of a length of 3/4" Aluminum Hexagonal bar that I purchased from our local Fastenal store. I cut it to the right length and drilled and tapped M6 holes in each end to bolt through the side panel and to the clamps. It works pretty well and allowed me to position the Moroso tank out from the side wall so that it is vertical and as high as I could get it.

I hope this helps.
Richard.

Which, of course, leads to all of these questions, mine included.

1) How did you attach the 1" ID hose to the Moroso tank fitting? Its a AN-16 fitting. Did you remove the threads? Will you be clamping it?

2) The cool 90 degree elbow let's you point the barbed fitting aft. Where did you get that?

I like the spacers holding the mount clamp off the irregular body shape.

Thank you for sharing your work.

Mike
Looks like an ordinary Male-to-Female PT brass elbow with a MPT hose adapter. I assume a shut-off valve is in the works. A Fumoto ball valve would be a nice addition here. Easy to open and close. They make a version that can accept a longish PVC drain hose to route under the vehicle.

What size hose did you use to put over the male 16AN fitting on the tank? The stock 1" ID hose I have won't come close to fitting. I think I need somthing closer to 1.25" ID. Also, did you put any selaer around the threads when you attached the hose? I'm afraid that oil will eventualy seep past the threads. I thought about getting a 16AN fitting, but I just hate to spend $35 for one (fairly insignificant) fitting.

Thanks.
Roger

It's hard to see it, but the Moroso catch can is mounted to bracket that I welded to the top of the frame rail. In the bottom of the Moroso catch can is a '45 AN bulkhead fitting that goes through the engine tin. On the end of that AN bulkhead is a cap that can be removed to then drain any oil buildup from the catch can. All vent lines to the catch can are AN12. Very little oil buildup even with a worn out 2.2

I really can't remember, but it fit pefectly on the catch can, but I had to use some cloth tape to build up the fitting on the console. I'll pull it off and measure.

My catch inlet adapter fitting for the stock-sized rubber hose was made from brass plumbing fittings that I put together from my local hardware store.

It's preferable to have the largest, uninterrupted passage size as possible, but understand the lack of commercial catch cans with 3/4" or greater hose fittings.

Generally, from negligible (typical) to lots (e.g. oil overfill, high G cornering, excessive blowby, etc.). Better to visually observe and act on the contents of a catch can via liquid level tube or translucent/clear container. Many master brake cylinder reservoirs have liquid level sensors, but that's overly complicated for typical street application

Here is mine, this is a custom can from Saikou Michi (trail blazed by another Pelicanite kerthunk). Working very well for me. I don't get much of anything in the tank, but I haven't done a track event with this setup yet...

Since the discussion has also covered fuel tank venting, has anyone found a small activated carbon canister that can be used to replace the larger one that's stock? I'd like to get a small one on the far left corner of the engine compartment to handle the tank venting (I have the other stock parts in place).

I run the Moroso can with a setup exactly like Richard's above (thanks for the inspiration). I emptied the can last week after 18 track days and it was about 1/3 full.

NASA rules specify 1 L minimum.
I used an old drink bottle with EMT fittings.

I dont have a pic handy and its not accessable now behind the intercooler, but my supercharged car has its catch can bottom fitting draining down to the 4-5-6 upper valve cover. No maintenance. As the oil in the can accumulates it drains down a -6 fitting, into -6 hose with a loop-da-loop down to a -6 fitting welded into the valve cover.

Watch the size of your can, some sanctioning bodies require a certain size. It can be 2-3 quarts for our cars in some places.
