Can you tell us more about this "stongard" clear plastic film ?
I see the outline on the edge of your headlight area in the lifted clear coat pic.

Using jack stands under the front torsion bars is frowned upon?

I always put the stands under the pads,...
But to avoid the wiring hassle with the front
Blinkers and marker lights I spliced in a water proof
Trailer lights connector.
Just unplug one plug per side and pull the bumper off.

Hello, i'm in the process of putting my bumpers back on now that paint is finished. What is the order to install them? Do I first install the valence, then the bumper?

By all means re-install the valence first. It may not be impossible to do it the other way around, but would be way harder for sure.

Used this instruction as guidance to remove my front end. Thanks. I did not jack the car up or remove wheels and had no issues. And, since I was removing fenders too, I thought I would mention that the turn signal connectors are in the headlight buckets behind the light bulbs. I used a jeweler's screwdriver to push down the connection locks and removed the connector housings. That allowed me to pull the turn signal loom out of the fender and pull the front bumper in one piece with bellows attached and turns signals installed. The lower valance came out easy after that.

Thanks again!

I'm in the process of bringing my bumper back to stock and I can't find a diagram of how the smile attaches to the fenders anywhere. Does anyone have a good photo or know the size of the screws or clips involved? I need to know what to buy before I can attach this thing. I'm workin' with nothin' at the moment.

The black rubber smile itself ist fixed as follows:
when held in position unter the headlights, it is screw fixed a) from the inside of the trunk with 6 screws and b) with 2 screws to each side from underneath.

When holding the smile in hand you will see the fixpoints and it will be selfexplanatory.

The smile must be fixed BEFORE mounting the bumper.

I'm hoping I can get the exact specs of the fasteners involved, but I hopefully when my parts arrive I'll be able to eyeball it and grab some screws at a hardware store. Screws are pretty easy, clips are a bit harder.

Thread resurrection.

I searched and searched, but couldn't find an answer, so I'm asking here...

Can a G body 911 (mine is an '87) be driven with the front bumper removed? I have to remove my front bumper to bring it in for paint, but will need to move the car about 10 miles while the bumper is off getting painted.

Thanks!

I don't see why not. The only thing you lose are the blinker/marker lights...and the bumper itself. You don't even need to take the valance off (though that would be fine too).

I have moved mine a good number of times without the front bumper installed...during my build.

Thanks to the original poster. I had to remove my bumper this weekend and this was very helpful indeed.

huge thanks to the OP. I am a novice compared to most of you here and I was able to take the bumper and valance off and reinstall it using the guide. My buddy helped out a lot.

When I reinstalled, I replaced all the hardware with either Porsche specific stuff or nuts/bolts/washers from belmetric. if anyone needs part numbers or help, let me know. i was pretty meticulous about keeping track of all the fasteners.

the only mishap was when I reinstalled the bumper, i (because i am an idiot and lazy) didn't use some painters tape to cover the edges of the valance to avoid scraping it.
the bellows were not tucked in properly and the sharp edges created a tiny scratch. i ended up using touchup paint to fix it but it could have been avoided.

I also added a waterproof connector to the turn signal cable. I was able to assemble the entire bumper on ground and thus avoid holding the bumper while tightening the 11 or so bolts for the turn signals/oil cooler protector bar.

hardest part was the final rubber piece. maybe i was doing it wrong but man getting that on took some effort and a lot of cursing.

Wow this looks may complicated than it should be. I was planning on getting an IROC bumper soon and I assumed it would have been plug and play. I will definitely reference this guide later. I wanted to remove the bumper shocks while I was in there.
