Well, yeah, that swap meet looks like it was "OK" ..... but if you lived here in Michigan you could have donned a ski jacket and gloves, joined me in my cold garage, pulled up a frozen lawn chair and stared at my nice clean dry car while a blizzard was blowing through outside. It just doesn't get much more fun than that.

It was actually very windy yesterday, but it died down a little in the afternoon.
Today is is almost perfect, around 79 for a high and just a little breeze. Oh well. I think that black 911 actually has a turbocharged Buick grand national engine in it and not a V-8. I spoke to the owner for a while at a Pomona swap meet last year. He was claiming 650 hp then, looks like the current 550 is closer to the mark. Still, a very fast car, and an incredible installation. The guy did it right. We had a very large turn out this year, almost too large for the venue. This this seems to double in size every year. Great pics Wayne as usual. There are three pics of my car in there, if you can look behind the yellow hard topped boxter you can actually see one of my fenders:-) I don't know if that is an insult or not, must be a counter attack against the SCWDP:-) As is par for the course, I sold $125 worth of stuff and bought $250 worth. At least the box of parts was lighter on the way home. That 917-10 has got to be the most intimidating vehicle I have ever seen. It looks meaner and more dangerous that an F-16. too bad I am too tall for it. I wonder how it would do on an autocross course? As usual there were many incredible cars, several of them were so special that I felt nervous just standing next to them. About a dozen of us met at a local pizza place afterwards, but most of the vehicles were parts haulers, so only 2 Porsches showed up. I survived with little more than a bad sunburn and a hang over. Thanks to everyone involved for making it a very enjoyable day for all of us. |

i spoke with the guy who owned the early black 911...it is, in fact, a turbo buick V6...
there was a post a while ago asking what a 911 would look like with 11' flares and no front ones...well...thats what he has...it's not as bad as i pictured it to be...but just a bit off... you really do have to see the car in person though...the fabrication skills going into it was ART! i mean, i was really amazed by how truly clean everthing was..it could have been factory...

Isn't that beautiful? It's an Abarth Carrera GTL, a 356 with a custom body put together by an Italian company. Only 20 were made, and they were used for racing, even by Porsche's factory team.
Info on it. All of them are accounted for.

http://www.nosubstitute.org/events/Dunkels10Feb02/DSCN0042.jpg Chris? I'm not as skilled at posting pics...but this 356 based car you weren't sure about? Relying on memory here...so forgive if I'm in error. I believe it's a one-off, a body by Bertone (sp?) A previous owner was Janis Joplin...

Nice pics!
Geez, I live in the area and had no clue about this event as I surely would have attended. I have to visit this site more often to find out what's going on. |

That is the front end of a Porsche 356.
Ok, seriously, it was made that way to be used as a prop in a movie. I don't know which one. The car (or half of it) has made it to Dunkel's all of the past three years. It is very clean, and if someone needed a front end this might do, but I think I remember a price of around $6k. Ouch. |
