Talking Heater Knobs

Just wanted to say thank you to the person that gave the tip of using good ol RIT dye to enhance faded heater knobs. It worked like a champ. For the white lettering I used a paint stick provided in a GS-27 scratch kit. Hopefully the white will dry hard and will last a long time...If not I'll use model paint to do the lettering. What a difference...Once again thank you!

For the white lettering use "White-Out". Bullet proof. Wipe it on and immediately wipe it off. Residue will stay in the groves.

Late to the party - is this a total bath in straight RIT dye?

Sorry...No before and after pics but I think someone else posted a comparison pic showing new knob and dyed one. The color dye used is "scarlet" and the witches brew is about a pint of water for the whole package (add some salt it "sets" the color). I boiled the water then added the dye. I let them soak in the dye for about 24 hours. The tops of the knobs were "pink" but are now all "red" again. Once again thanks for the tip

Awesome to see more people restoring their knobs. I've put mine back on the car and they look great! Unfortunately I bought some before I attempted this project...anyone need a set of new in the bag heater knobs???

Hey Wayne could this make it into Projects for Your Car 101 Vol II???

Cheers
