911 Turbo (Lightweight) Bumper Options
Hi guys,
I've got a turbo look 911. I have grown up with the car and am somewhat attached to the look, but I believe that's from seeing it everyday the last 18 years. Anyone else like the accordions and bumperettes over a FG piece? Well anyway, I made it down to Better Bodies today, to see some stuff. I am not a fan of 964 kits and I would rather not go earlier as my brother has got an earlier car and I like to keep ours different.Does anyone recommend or have pictures of front and/or rear bumpers they like? I found two rear bumpers that I was interested in but I didn't like the matching fronts. Ive gotten used to that long rubber lip Lightweight is a big motivator but I'm pretty sure just about anything will shed tons of weight of the ends.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The latter is my favorite, but again the front isn't for me. Is it possible to mix and match bumpers and have them look good?

The official modified bumpers thread.
I just bought a bumper and will be working on it this winter. Might find some ideas for yours there.

Thanks, I think thats the thread I was looking for but couldn't find.
Those are the sc rs? They look pretty nice. I like the idea of keeping the rubber lip

Getty Design makes fiberglass copies of the stock bumper blades if you want to keep that look and save some weight.

Thats a good idea. I would assume that the weight loss isn't as impressive right? Maybe 10 or 15 lbs for each?

I don't have details on the weight saving but the numbers look fair, especially if you go with the euro crush tubes replacing the bumper shocks. I have the fiberglass bumpers on my car and am really happy with them.

That brings up another thing, the car is euro. Do 78 euro sc's have these lighter crush tubes? I know I have the skinny bumperettes that weigh a fraction of the us versions. Is there still a considerable amount of weight to be shed?

Mine are very light weight indeed, German made carrera 3.0 rs shape
The rear one is a bit open up for better heat transfer, the front is good for a big central oil cooler, it doesn't need to modify the front of the car to maximize air flow through the cooler This is the very same set up the Frankfurt '73 turbo prototype before G model concertina being introduced ,so I think is something the factory actually designed and tested for the wide body 911 platform Jmo Simone ![]()

I'm a fan of the IROC/RS3.0 bumpers on widebody shorthood hot rods, if that's your thing.
My first choice would have been the SCRS setup but I don't think anyone makes them at this point.

Hi Giovanni,
I followed your building through the threads...my best compliments I completed a similar project ('73 rsr gr 4)some time ago and this fantastic forum has been of great help indeed As far as the front bumper I bought this Ruf modified 930 as it is, I'm still learning how to drive it fast... By the way the grp is excellent quality, very thin well laid texture therefore light weight but still rigid, much better of what we can usually source by Italy aftermarket company When I inspected the car I saw a label somewhere I will try to make a picture to pm you Ciao Simone Last edited by giuliemma; 10-09-2011 at 05:11 PM.. |
