kids walked over my car

Some high school kids jumped up and down on my targa top and then jumped onto my whale tail
the top is now very difficult to close and open and i was thinking of having it redone.
I've never seen whats inside a targa top but should I t r y to find a replacement or is possible to straighten the frame
Yes the tail was snapped off
anyone know if the top can be fixed?
Thanks

That really sucks. I live in a university neighborhood with bars a couple of blocks away. I worry that something similar could happen to me if I left my car on the street. Glad to have a garage.

Can you post pics of the top?

Unbelievable. I'm not sure about the roof, I just wanted express some sympathy.
Sorry to hear this...

It is the idiots of the world that keep me from taking any nice car anywhere where I'm not either driving it or near it. After having stuff done to my daily driver maxima, I hate the thought of parking one of my P-cars alone. Perhaps I'm jaded.

We have all done dumb things. Sometimes we flirt with death doing dumb things. This is one of those occasions. That really grinds my gears. Just terrible!

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

Sorry to hear this but welcome to Pelican.

I hope you reported this to the police and your insurance company. I understand that targa tops are not cheap.

Farkin' punks!

Everyone "does dumb things" as a teen-ager but I can't say I've ever done (or witnessed) deliberate destruction of property. For many of us, driving way too fast, drinking too much, and engaging in other risky indeavours, are part of growing up. But putting yourself at risk is far from the mindset that this individual(s) employed here. Hope they catch that punk and "hang im". Sorry to hear of this, hope everything works out for you...sounds like nothing money can't cure.

Sorry about that, I would be pissed off...
The targa top has aluminum ribs in it, they seem reatively easy to bend. In case you need it rebuilt as new, here is the best expert in the country: Vintage Porsche Parts and Targa Tops for Porsche

sorry that you have to deal with this
yes, you will need another top. the tops have magnesium framework, and it cracks way too easily. Don't waste your time trying to weld; it will just break again.

Perhaps with a donated frame, you can salvage the latches and some other parts from yours, have have one rebuilt

good luck

I could never purposely damage someone's car when a kid because I knew it was an awful thing to do. I have had it happen to many my vehicles at least 5 times Never provoked it either!

Wow that's just awful. The dumbest thing I had ever seen anyone do to a car was put out a cigarette on a plastic bumper of a brand new car. This is about 1,000,000 times worse.

Post a pic of the top.

If it is only the center portion deformed, then you can tap/press them out, it is only thin sheet metal.

If it is as Dave at TRE wrote, the magnesium frame or the hinges, then it is toast. You can attempt to add/bolt on some rigid steel plates. I did this in a bind while waiting for a replacement hinge from Dan at CARSINC NJ. Also very hard to find a good mangesium welder to work the material. I asked a guy experienced in aluminum and it litterally blew up, he stopped very quickly and rigged up the steel plate for me.

I'm with Draco; might be able to just send it to Dan Petchel (carsinc.com) and have him redo the vinyl (if need be) and straighten things out if the main bracing and hinges are OK. He's in NJ, not too far....does great stuff. Search his name, his phone # is around here somewhere!
