Solution to finding key slot in the dark (pics)
Yes you can have a lighted key, but I have an alternative solution in case you don't have a lighted key...
It is impossible to find the key slot in the dark! I have a push-button LED light on my key chain that helps to see the outside door handle lock... But it's difficult to use with two hands when trying to insert the key into the ignition (awkward to say the least). Here's my quick, nice-looking & great-working solution: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Great idea!
It's bad enough that my left hand has trouble getting the key in there in the first place but it's even worse in the dark. Thanks.......Vern |

Killer! That's a great solution. Cheap, fast, simple and inexpensive. Plus it looks good. I might have to go there. . .
Thanks for posting.

Does it stay on after you release the button? Just wondering, 'cause if not then you need both hands to get that key in place.

If you've had the car long enough, your hand will go to the right spot without thinking.

i replaced the mirror switch right above the key with an LED that comes on when the door is open. my power mirrors didn't work anyway.

But how do you find the LED button in the dark?
I have an idea! Your car also has an interior light that can be set to go on when you open the door. Set it that way, so when you open your door, the light goes on, so you can see the LED button! Me so smart. |

for door and ignition switch, simply lay your index finger on the key blade and feel. works left and right hand amazingly enough.

Hi Draco,
I also have an early, 1979, Clifford alarm with the keypad but it does not work right anymore. I had to bypass it to start the engine. But I would not mind getting it fixed. Any ideas? Does yours work?

In Air Force pilot training we had to do a blindfold cockpit test. With a helmet bag over your head, the instructor would call out a switch, gage knob, etc. The student had to put a finger on it first try. Since then, I've always tried to know my dash that well. Helps in the dark and when you need to adjust the radio while throttle steering through a high speed left hander when your eyes are otherwise occupied.....

Someone needs to invent a red colored overhead area light, similar to the ones in Mercedes Benz vehicles. 911s are too damn dark.

If things really get bad you could use your i-Phone for light...

Hopefully nobody minds me putting a RL link on here. Some 993s came with something like this from the factory.

Putting the key in before closing the door (i.e., interior light still on) makes the most sense to me. That is what I did before finally buying a key with a light.
