You ask this kind of question on a 911 Forum, what did anyone think the answer would be?? Of course we prefer a 911, thats why we are here to begin with.
Being purely objective,....The history, heritage and racing, puts the 911 in its own league. Really, the Boxster has none of this other than the name plate on its hood. Soon as the Boxster runs Lemans, it can start to build a race history and then maybe we can start comparing it to the 911. You earn street credibility.

I don't wave at people with the same car as mine. If they wave, I wave back.
The Boxter owners usually wave. More so than the uppity 911 drivers. I like the Boxter look with the side vents and all. The only thing that I don't like is the single exhaust. Awesome looking car. So what if it is considered an entry level car. Who are you to judge someones income? The Boxter is cool. If I had wanted to spend 1/2 the price on a Porsche , I would have gotten one. I like the look of them as they zoom by my poor old 911. It would be interesting if Porche made a coupe. I guess it can't be done but still, I like 'em. |

Porsche did make a coupe. It's called the Cayman.
Not as el cheapo as the boxster though.

I was thinking the exact thing this morning. If you like boxsters, good for you, if you don't, good for you too. Funny how they always have to compare the S model to the 30 yr. Old 911. Let's face it a boxster is a much easier and forgiving car to drive than the 911. You actually need some skill to drive a 911. Tim

You guys crack me up.
I'm an old 911 driver of many years so I get what most of you are saying - my daily driver for 10 years was my 911SC. Now I've got an '08 Boxster S and love it! Great fun!Calling it an entry level car has to be kind of.... thought about. Remember, any entry level Porsche is still way, way different than most other top level sports cars! Ok, back to my own forum now...

I bought my Boxster after I blew up my turbo SC at the Glen, and realized it would be down for awhile. I use the Boxster almost every day for work, because it gets 25 MPG and I drive it hard. It has 130K on it. It is a totally different car than the 911, way more balanced, different throttle steering characteristics. I've had it at the track, and it turns very well. It just doesn't have a lot of HP, but on the street, it has plenty.
The entire girl car thing is funny. I will say this: The Boxster spins much more delicately that the 911! And, you can't put a full set of golf clubs in either of them without taking the woods out of the bag...but that's what the 968 is for. All things considered, the 911 is more primitive and fun to drive, but I like the 986 also. It's modern and convenient, and has cup holders. Last thing...I was at a dealer the other day, and sat in a Panamera. If I put the seat all the way back, I couldn't reach the pedals. I suppose that will be the new "old man's car", huh?

People are always gonna have their opinions. Never gonna change. Nor should it. There is an opinion out there that 911 owners are A$$$$$$s. It's also possible for opinions/perceptions to be just flat out incorrect. For someone to say "I don't care what people think of the car I drive" then go on to say "I would never be caught dead in one". Ummm, I'm not even gonna address that. The comment itself speaks loudly enough. For some reason I think some of the perceived snobbery has its origins in the fact that (clearing throat here) "purists" prefer coupes. Convertibles are just trash. In general. One pretty cool fact is that the Boxster is designed as an open air vehicle. As many of the originial racing Porsches were.
I own an 01 Boxster S. I wanted a Porsche. I wanted a roadster (2 seater) and I wanted it opened aired. Now I can't afford to a 550 spyder, or a 718 RS 60. Or a Carrera GT for that matter. No, the only vehicle that Porsche makes nowadays that fits that criteria is the Boxster. I'm not takin shots here. Just offering my opinion, as others most plainly have. I'm curious if the Corvette is considered a chick car ? I don't live in Texas. I think I've seen 1, as in A as in singlular woman ever driving a Boxster. But what does that really matter ? I've seen HUNDREDS of women driving corvettes over the years. Pretty bad-assed cars (some of them) but I'm not into them. Wouldn't own one. Just don't have an interest. My bias is American cars ![]()

None taken (I certainly have served alot of feces in this thread and need to be able to eat some, too), and the post of mine that you quote above was meant as a joke (as I'm sure you can tell)!
I still think a Boxster is 100% chicolicous, though (even if it handles easily, gets good gas mileage, is low maintenance, comfortable, quiet and has excellent climate control)!!!

for the money, the boxster isn't a bad choice for $8-$9K as long as it is well serviced with RMS and IMS upgrades. i'd never pay more for one considering the market is saturated and they become devalued every day.
i bought one in 2009 and drove it home from santa cruz. nice clean car, silver w/black 6 speed w/hardtop. had a weird issue with a whistling sound from the front truck lip on the freeway...remedied that by adjusting the hood latch lower. i kept it for a year and had fun with it. fairly straightforward car. wish the seat would adjust back a bit more. i found my legs needed a bit more room and i'm 6'1". anyone taller would feel uncomfortable. |

My favourite Boxter line:
"You know what the Boxter says about you?" You couldn't afford the 911.

If they call this a "Chick Car", I know they obviously don't know anything, then I proceed to punch them in the throat.

I've loved them from the start. My first Porsche after owning a series of VWs was a 1975 914. I always felt a little second class in the 914 but I loved it! Silver 1.8 Liter, cool black targa top that fit so neatly into the rear trunk, drove like a little go kart. I thought the Boxter was the modern reincarnation of the 914! The latest Boxters are unbelievable. Love them all over.
