IMO, $25K sounds right for the car as you've described it. As said easier, don't let $1-2K keep you from pulling the trigger. I also don't give as much value to low mileage; on these cars, which can go forever, the maintence history is more important. Nick

I think you've gotten all the advise you need, just remember that value is completely different than price and different folks will reach a different decision based on their wants and needs. So if you're comfortable with it, that's the only thing that matters. I paid 17,500 for an 86 Coupe that some would have run away from because it needed a paint job head to toe. The PO had done 33k worth of documented work and performance upgrades to the car over his stewardship of it. Someone else may not have been happy with it, but I walk away from it with an ear to ear smile after every drive.

You all know he's not buying a 911- right?

This is the same pattern he's done for nearly a decade on Pelican- ask if a car is worth the money, if it is then it invariably fails the mythical PPI or gets sold out from under him or somehow vanishes.

Again- NOT a buyer. No test drives, no offers, no PPIs, nothing. Just endless stroking.

It's worth what it's worth to you. If you feel you're getting value for money then other people's opinions don't matter much at all. You are a long-time Pelican member and you know how to find comparables as well as anybody else on this board.

I bought my '85 (120K miles, GP white on black, no tail) for ~$14K in 2010. It has original paint in good shape, a very nice interior bar driver's bolster, and it is mechanically sound per comprehensive PPI performed at the time.

I think that today this is a high-teens car and I don't think $25K for a 66K miler is too far out of line at all. If it's the right car it will speak to you. Go drive it and get a PPI.

Good luck and go get your car.

My advice -- worth what you paid for it -- is pull the trigger, even if it means $24-$25K. Don't let $1K-$2K pull you away from a car that otherwise would make you incredibly happy, especially since you've been searching so long for it. It sounds like you've been searching now for what, 5+ years? $2K over that time really amounts to what, about $8.00 a week? I spend more than that on coffee, and I enjoy my Carrera infinitely more . . . .

Good luck Pleco

Pull the trigger

Holding out good thoughts for you, brother.
Thanks flat six! emailed the owner and sounds good so far. Gonna ppi it on monday. So far so good... let u know soon, regards

Kurt

BTW, that SC I was going to look at for you was sold before I even called the guy.

Funny. I was in contact with him and he said someone was coming over to look...thought it was u...then he said the guy bought it... i thought to myself in a bitter tone: "Silber!"

LOL!

I wasn't kidding about the wife's one-Porsche limit. I like the one I have, and even though the one I was going to look at for you was a nice color combo and looked like a decent deal, there's no way I'd swap.

Until you are actually driving in your own 911, people are going to make comments. Especially after 5+ years of this same pattern.

I'm a relative n00b here, so I have high hopes.

Pleco,

Good luck with the PPI! Having owned both an SC and Carrera, you won't be disappointed with the '85.

I think his purpose is to inform those who don't know... that you are not in the market for a 911.

PPI on Monday? Nonsense. No such thing is happening.

Post some pictures of the car and a link. Who's doing the PPI? Let us know will you please?

Most people search for 3, 4 or even 6 months for the right car because they have a very limited budget and cannot afford the better cars- You claim to have a budget just shy of THIRTY GRAND- and 7 years of this identical circle-jerk posting and no car.

So.. prove it. Post the link, post the photos, post the PPI results. Let's see it.

NOBODY in America cannot find a suitable 80's 911 with a THIRTY THOU budget. Throw a dart at the $30K cars out there and you'll hit a great car that ill provide decades of service. Got $8,000 to spend...might take some more time.

What are you looking to derive from your post, or what benefit do u get out of doing so? How does this impact your (or anyone else's) life in a positive way? I'm curious of your motivation.

Actually, many of us are wondering the exact same thing about you.

There isn't anything in this thread that hasn't already been asked and answered many times in many of your previous threads.
Personally, I think you just like the attention.

Personally I've enjoyed following Pleco's hunt for a car. After 5 months of looking myself, I'm eager for the finish. But Pleco's adventure, real or otherwise, has obviously been an activity of interest or he wouldn't still be after it.
Its worthwhile for him, its amusing for me, it seems to vary between interesting to odd to fun for most on this board. If you're feeling like a party-pooper I'm sure there is a thread somewhere here with an engine fire. Me? I'd personally rather read about a sweet '85 and mull over what it should go for.

There's enough forum for everyone and we're all a little odd in our own ways.
