3.6 SSI's on a 3.2 Carrera?

Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to buy some new, before Dansk, SSI's for a 3.6 (91.936SSI). My question is: will these fit a 3.2 Carrera? To me it looks like the only difference is the lip on the flange which to me doesn't seem to be a problem.

Thanks

They can be fitted but are still the same small pipes, They will work fine at lower rpm but will limit high rpm hp

All SSi are 1 1/2"(38mm) OD 1 3/8"(35mm) ID, ok through 3 stock liter getting to be too small for a 3.2 definitely too small for a 3.6.

They advertise them as for 3.6 because of thick flange and O sensor bung, the 3.2 version also has those reversion cones.

for 3.2 up you want 42mm OD

Thanks for your reply Bill. Is stock better than SSI's on a 3.2?

There are pros and cons both ways

A lot depends on whether or not a cat is to be retained and how cost effective you want to be.

For a stock 3.2 a good cat bypass and free flow muffler will be be comparable to even a 42mm header/muffler setup at a fraction of the price

The header/muffler will usually have better #s but only at the very top, it will also be lighter and of course you will also need to address the heat implementation.

Thanks, I'll pass on the SSI's. I have a Fabspeed cat bypass and a stock muffler. What would you recommend for a free flow muffler?

Bill,
I want to make sure I understand this, since I've been considering SSIs for my build.
Are you saying that the SSIs don't do much on a stock 3.2 running a cat? I thought they flowed a lot better and were a nice HP bolt-on over the stock exchangers.

Madcorgi -- yes, bill's previous confirmed (and confirmed in this thread) that the OD (outer diameter) of ssi headers is too small to provide an appreciable improvement over the larger OD stock 3.2 exhaust, especially if a cat bypass/euro premuffler is added to the stock 3.2 exhaust.

Keep in mind that the SSIs are modeled after the 911's stock 2out exhaust which was sized for the original (up to 2.4l) 911 engines and is therefore undersized for a 3.2 or larger.
