BF Goodrich G Force Sport Comp2

Just installed the BFGRich G Force Sport Comp 2s on my 83 SC.

205/55/16
225/50/16

Originally really wanted the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec. However, did some research and read reviews on the Comp2s and liked them. Got great deal on them ---$465 installed (after all rebates). Dunlops would have been ~ $670 installed.

They look really nice, not too flashy. Initial drive indicates softer rubber and walls. My old tires were Dunlop Sport 8000s. They were more than 6 or 7 years old. Some tread left, but cracks were appearing in the treads.

Interesting thing about the Comp2s are that even though they are marketed as "ultra high performance" tires, they still have the M+S designation on the side walls. These might as well be good enough to serve as "all season" tires as well.

I will update this post from time to time to indicate miles driven and my review.

Anyone else have the Comp2s installed?

Jonathan

Good to hear. I'm getting some Dunlop Z1 Star Spec installed next week. They'll be replacing 8 yr old Kumos from the PO. I can't wait.

The Comp 2 appears to be an updated version of the G-Force Sport that has been available for a few years. I've had a few sets of those including the ones on my current 911 and have been very pleased with them. They are great in the rain and have a good tread life for what BFG considers a "Summer" tire.

They aren't uber-sticky like Michelin Pilot Sports but they probably last twice as long. IMO the BFG's are a great choice for a street-only 911 and they look "right" on a '80's Porsche.

I liked the G-Force Sport better than my current Yokohama S-Drive, which tends to spin in wetter conditions. The BFG is a good, solid, reliable and inexpensive choice for the street.

Star Specs are nice --- a bit more expensive though.

Do you mainly run street or do you track/autocross?

I'm mainly street. So, the Comp2s are more than enough for my needs.

Thanks!

I needed a push in the right tire direction in a bit of hurry, (Memorial day tire sale). I ordered a set of the BFG comp 2's. I am replacing a set of well worn Dunlop 8000's, the only tires I have ever had on the car. Looking forward to new shoes! Just wanted to post a thanks for the helpful info on the subject.

RawP ---

Congrats on the order. Hope they arrive shortly. You won't regret it. I had opportunity to do my first spirited drive today on the freeway here in SoCal. Very nice. Excellent grip on the cloverleaf on/off ramps. No noticeable trammeling. Noise is none out of ordinary. Great response on turns. All that for a great price too!

Since you're from the NW, you'll be pleased to see that the tread pattern for the Comp2's are somewhat "all-season" like. It looks like it can handle rain pretty well. Not that it really applies here in SoCal.

Rain

Well it's a targa... so I avoid most of the rain. I would prefer a coupe and really would like to trade into one but I am holding steady as my wife is not interested in a porsche at all and I rarely remove the top like I thought I would.

The Dunlops were worn when I purchased the car but seemed ok as I accelerated around tight corners, a bit Loose in the rear but manageable. New rubber, alignment, corner balance and all should be proper.

Keeping it alive

I joined the club today. Haven't been on a hell ride yet, but took my young nephew for a fun run and my "over all" impression is positive. They are a very solid tire on the highway and they respond very well through on/off ramps. Less noise than previous tires and I absolutely love the feel. Seems like a smart and rewarding choice. Oh yeah, made in the U.S.A.! I can't wait to push them in a more spirited manner without precious cargo on board.

The sidewalls seem very supportive and the traction is right on so far. Dare I say, "confidence inspiring"?

$468.00 rolling away.

Street/Highway driver only, been using BFG G Force Sport (Not Comp 2's) for years. Smoothest, most comfortable, quiet, reassuring, inexpensive ride I've ever had in 20 yrs with my 88. Can't speak to performance cornering, and it's not driven in our infrequent rain. Tire wear competitive with other brands I've tried (Read: Lousy on rears).

Took a 1.5hr. cruise this morning and pushed the tires a bit more. They seem to begin where the last set of tires left off. I will add they are so smooth, quiet and reliable at speed.....so far.

They didn't take long to heat up and grip on the cold/wet (from cold night to sunshine) roads up in the hills was promissing.

I was running BFG G-Force Sport tire, which I was happy with and even did some track days. Now I'm running the G-Force Comp 2, prob have about 3000 miles on the tires now and I'm happy with them and don't really notice that big a difference. I think there great tires for the money and they perform well. You'll enjoy them
