brake bleeding '84 911 Carrera Coupe

The 911 Carrera (mine is '84) has power assisted brakes. I am going to manually flush and bleed brake fluid. Question: should engine be running when bleeding - repeatedly pumping brakes and then opening the valves (with an assistent of course). I can find no mention of whether the engine should be running in the Bently manual or in "101 project for 911".

That is surprising to me, but since the the references I noted do not say to run the engine, your recommendation makes the most sense. My belief was that since the brakes don't feel right or work much without the engine running, the engine should be running when bleeding. - Thanks

Alternatively, you could make one...

The DIY $20 brake bleeder

Good luck!
