RoninLB
RoninLB is not long for this world................At least according to the doctors....................
Of course, he has a different opinion......................."those f**king bastards haven't killed me yet!"..............all delivered in that 170db fog horn voice of his. For those of you who might not be familiar with this guy, go here and get a good dose of the Mutt and Jeff show from 2007.. He's the sawed off little *hit; I'm the big guy, Brorag. He's also a cornerstone of this blog--If you do a search of his name, you'll get the idea. Knows more about 911's than almost anyone else, and it's by having taken them apart and fixing them. I spent the weekend with him and his sainted wife in Long Beach, and he's taking it like he does every thing else--in stride--hanging around the house, messing with his car and garage, raking leaves, harrassing the cat and still chain smoking those damn hard box Marlboro's. ("fu*k, no reason to give'm up now"!).................. We took a 60 mile spin down the beaches--he's got that car dialed in just right--running lean and sounding great. It's cleaned up, and like all his other stuff, is all sorted out and assigned to it's next caretaker. Went to the local KofC pub for a few longnecks, and checked out the firehouse; That's his other passion; he spec'd out one of the fire trucks, and of course its a hotrod--the fastest firetruck on Long Island from 0-50 (stoplight to stoplight). Black and Porsche red--no *****................. He's spent most of his time this last year building the garage of all garages; if Long Beach gets nuked, it will be the only place left standing. He's one of the crustiest SOB's you'll ever know.........on the outside. Those of us who have the privledge of knowing him know him to be a different person; compassionate, knowledgable, intelligent but not one to show it, and a good friend. He has voraciously consumed life, and has lived the equivilent of at least 4 normal lifetimes in his 63 years. There is a parable in here somewhere--get off your dead asses--get out there and live a lusty life the way this guy has..............don't wait till it's too late........................... And yes, he will call you up on the phone at 2AM from your driveway, wanting to know if you were ready to take that cross country trip.............................ask me how I know............. Love ya, buddy. Keep givin'm hell........................ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm stunned by this thread. Ron's a helluva good guy and has been a great resource around this place for many years. His big, big ride threads were some of the best reading on this web forum. My wife and i stayed at Ron's when were passing through thru the NYC area to points north on our first 911 road trip. Get well, Ronnie!

When John & I talked, he said he'd be posting this...and I said I'd reply. Ron has been here twice, the 2nd time with John tagging along.
My garage and tools are available for either guy...any time! The rest? Just too damned personal and emotional for me. Ron, if you read this...always my best wishes to you. Now logging back outahere...

I've never met him but he recently reached out to me in order to help me plan a cross country trip. He gave me his home # and told me to call anytime.
His willingness to assist a complete stranger speaks volumes about his character. Cheers to that Ronnie. |

Ron, we met briefly on a Palisades Parkway run years ago. My father is 15 years past what "they" said he had left. And he has lived each day since his news knowing that each day is a gift. I'm sure they have been better spent years than they might have been had he never got any dire prediction, ironically.
Here's hoping the same outcome for you.

Seems like just yesterday I was reading about RoninLB building an engine in his study, I am pretty sure it was him years ago. He inspired me to do a rebuild in my spare room.
His was the first cross country trip I remember reading/following that inpired a few trips of my own. He seems to have a love of the ocean. I have lived near the ocean most of my life and always enjoyed his stories. He seems to have a good understanding of electrical issues. I am an electrical technologist and alway find his electrical advice valuable and helpful. Thank you Ron, keep up the good fight

Hey Ron,
You are one of THE most inspirational & generous members of the Porsche community. Your contributions on 911 maintenance, repair and of course, marvelous road trips have truly enriched any human being who has read them. We spoke on the phone many years ago about possibly doing an engine for your car and I one day, was really looking forward to making my own contribution toward that goal. Doctors are not infallible and make plenty of mistakes in this regard. Hang in there buddy & prove them wrong (again). You have plenty of good folks pulling for you. Call anytime to chat!

Two years ago Ron came over to purchase a front SC roll bar, two and a half hours latter he left, his car was pristine and his stories better.
Anyone who can leave a legacy like Rons will live on, and on... God bless you. Jack Minot |

We hear more than ever now about people who persevere despite the odds when it comes to "terminal" illnesses.
Sounds like Ron just may be one of those. Keep fighting, Ron!

Ron,
You are one of the great ones. It sure as heck seems like a short time but back in 1999 when I got my 911, you and the other group of long standing Pelicans showed me the way to pure German happiness! Beer and oh of course these crazy little cars! GIVE EM HELL! Best wishes to you. I sincerely appreciate your presence here. Dan Bleskey
