I dont understand why the author simply didn't buy longer stainless steel bolts and problem solved.

Except that he did indeed buy longer bolts to address the shape of the band, which is the issue, preventing the use of the proper fastener, which is the one you want to use as it is shorter, making it easier to remove, and fractionally lighter.

So, like when installing new sping plates and bushes, use the LONGER bolt to seat the part, remove and replace with the proper bolt when it comes time to button up.

Why is that unacceptable?
