attended the PCA Porschefest on Saturday at Summit Point and participated in the People's Choice Concours. I won third place! two 356s took the top two spots. It was a hot and humid day but a lot fun!

After many months of procrastination, I finally went after the "bolts" for my exhaust to put my M&K premuffler and muffler on. Armed with advice and various methods, each bolt presented its own special challenge. I tried all the tricks--soaking fluid, nut extractors, 3" grinder, dremel, air chisel and punch. I got creative in splitting the most resistant nuts with the chisel by grooving them and then changing the angle to "loosen" the nut. This split them and then they came off with pliers. But even then, some of the bolts were so nicely bonded to the exhuast I had to heat them, hammer them, punch them, swear at them, but eventually they all yielded.

That's one word for it...there could be others
Muffler on, now just have to get the nickel anti-seize all over them, and put it all back together. Next is swaybars, shocks and struts, and rotors and pads. Slowly but surely!

Replaced the door checks on both doors due to both doors “popping” when opening and closing. The passenger door is quiet, the drivers door still “pops”. Not as bad, but it is still there. OE Porsche checks for a ‘74 911. Any ideas why it didn’t fix the problem?

So check the pin too. Cute dog BTW.

Having a blast replacing my brake light pressure switches on the master cylinder.
The front switch is not too bad, the rear switch is a royal pain in the butt. ![]() To make thing more fun, the old switches need a 22 mm wrench, and the new ones need a 24 mm wrench. The front switch is easy with a deep 22 mm socket. Just remove all the stuff in the way, and the deep socket makes it simple to remove and replace. The rear one has the air controller box in the way to prevent using a socket. My only choice was a open end wrench. Again, 22 to remove the old switch, and a 24 to get the new one back on. And it was turn a little bit, turn the wrench over, and turn a little more and turn it over and do it again. The brake line prevents using the box end on the wrench. My brake lights are no longer stuck on.

The grease for my distributor arrived and after sitting disassembled on my work bench for the last three weeks I got it back together and into the car. Fortunately I had read about some of the issues with the replacement outer seal on the distributor body making it impossible to get back into the engine. That was my experience as well and after working on it for a while and gettting nowhere I swapped back to the old seal and it went right back in.
Took the car on a quick 30 mile blast around town and all seems well… I had forgotten how loud it is with cat bypass and fabspeed supercup. |

Had a great day…Backed the 911 off the rack and Mrs. Parrish and I went on a beautiful drive through the Western North Carolina mountains. Drove from Hiawassee through Peachtree and Sylva to Robbinsville. Drove up to Joyce Kilmer Forrest and went on a three hour hike in one of the last virgin forests on the east coast…the size of the Hemlocks and Poplar trees is awe inspiring. After that, drove toward the Tail of the Dragon to Topocca Lodge and had a great late lunch sitting beside the river. The drive back was as beautiful and spirited as the drive over. After almost 30 years, the old girl still puts a smile on my face…My bride puts a smile on my face still after 24 years.

Put the car on a flatbed for the first time during my 23k mile ownership.
Shipped it to the west coast from NYC ahead of Car Week and it no started — cranks, no tach bounce, no spark — so they had to roll it off the trailer. Flew over a couple of days later and worked through all of the usual things I could in a friend’s driveway: swapped DME relays, FP relay, FP (runs when jumped), re-seated & checked all three sensors^ (resistance OK), harness, grounds. No dice. I keep a lot of spares in my kit but not spare sensors. Did not check AC voltage on the speed+ref when cranking as it was 95F+ out and needed to cut my losses/get the car to a shop before EOD. Dave @ TRE made some room to take it in. Known-good DME swap didn’t do the trick so hoping for an update on Monday. Suspecting ref/speed sensors decided to give up on a hot and bumpy (enclosed) trailer across the country? ![]()

Gave it a good wash n shine in prep for Car Week .. will get filthy driving down, but oh well .. looks good for now .. will give it a spit shine Friday morning so I'm not embarrassed in the Corral
