BAD Idea?!?

Hello all, I don't believe I've actually introduced myself before so here it goes. I am the proud owner of an 83 SC sunroof coupe. A kind of "barn find" I got it two summer's ago not running. Since then I have gone over most things you'd expect: Rebuilt brakes and master cylinder, fixed sunroof, deep cleaning of interior (PO was storing books in it!!!MUSTY) As for the engine I backdated the heat, removed A/C, installed a pre blown-up airbox with pop off. Replaced the dilivar head studs with steal and treated (Sunnen method) the cylinders and new rings on pistons. Additionally I replaced all the rubber and seals on the CIS. I'm proud to say it's running quite well for the time being! I owe a great deal of thanks to all involved here for the knowledge to do this. Thank you! Right now I'm getting some rust taken care of that my 4 year old found for me. ( He tripped on the door jam rubber revealing it!) It's not done yet but they never are are they.

Now for the big question. I have discovered a barn condition '74 2.7 liter. It has been abandoned and was in the process of a slant nose conversion. It has the turbo (metal) fenders on the rear and fiberglass slant nose fenders in front. The interior is surprisingly ok-ish. No obvious rust. The odometer shows 67K if it is accurate. My thought is to get this car back on the road and sell it as a project.

I know that the 2.7 is infamous so what would you expect to pay for a unknown such as this. Or is this such a bad idea that I should let it stay right where it is? I find it tempting and can't keep it off my mind. Your thoughts are as always, appreciated!!

Congrats on the SC. Your boy looks like he just got back from a blast of a ride.

Get the '74 if it has no rust. Look it over closely using skills taught by your son, lol.

Take some pics. Unfinished projects look to be in the range of your skills.

Rust would be a big concern since the 74 was not galvanized like your SC. As for the 2.7, I dont own one but looked at many cars with them. Like any Porsche motor it has its issues. I found over the years that the SC and Carerra (3.0 and 3.2) motors seem to be more or less trouble free but we all know that you should put the Tensioners in your SC motor and keep an eye on you ECU in your Carrrera motor. A well sorted 2.7 is just as good as any other motor.

Regards
Dave
