My son has also become quite the connoisseur.

My fondest memories are of my youngest operating the CD player in my SC and singing along to Lucinda Williams.
I won't forget when she was 5 and I was battling for custody my ex's attorney saying " He's driving around with his two girls in a 2 seat sports car calling himself a responsible parent".
>>>> My response being " it's got 4 seats and you need to do your homework".
10 yrs later both my daughters have somehow survived living with a single dad and a Porsche and are certainly no worse for wear

My daughter and I went for our donut this morning as usual. As we get back in the 911 I look in the back seats and all buckled up are a stuffed wolf in one seat and a stuffed dog in the other. My daughter said they wanted to go for a ride, too.

We went to the grocery store later and she buckled 2 of her "Monster High" dolls in the back seats this time.

I'm pretty sure you could say she has me wrapped around her finger.

I think there are invaluable lessons, memories and bonding moments sharing a love of cars and mechanics between fathers and kids. Mine won't leave me along if I'm in the garage, how many other current day 4 year olds have had their hands inside of a flat 6?

And he's my car show buddy, something Mom seems all too happy about

I grey up around my fathers 911, and i always loved it. i think the best part of it all, is now its mine and i love it even more. my father and i were never very close but we both love this car and the joy it can bring...

sorry on the length but thought i would share this.. as it seems fitting

A BOY AND HIS PORSCHE
Once upon a time there was a young boy, who’s father had a great love for Porsche. His father had always loved Porsche and had a few different models over the years. Naturally the Young boy developed a strong love for these expertly engineered machines from a young age, and would always imagine the day he was behind the wheel.

One day his father brought home a little brown Porsche, in need of new loving owners. The boy loved the little Porsche like no other. Cruising late at night with the top off, gazing at the dark star filled sky, a perfect moment. Nothing could be better for the boy than a cruise with pops in the little brown Porsche.

As the boy grew older, he also grew further from his father, but one mutual love for the little brown Porsche remained. While the boy was away he always wondered how little Porsche was doing, what adventures she might be on, and if he would get to see her again.
Many years later, the boy and his father started to become close once again, and found themselves living in the same state, and guess who was still with the father? Yes, the little brown Porsche!. Although she was starting show her age as well as her life’s adventures, she was still as beautiful and full of character as the last day he saw her. However, seeing her like this did bring a slight pain and disappointment to the boy. At this point the boy had almost given up on the little Porsche, and was convinced his father was going to sell. But yet, he never lost hope.

One day the boys father, after owning the car for over 15 years found the timing right to pass the key on to the boy. Confused, nervous, yet extremely excited, the boy was so very proud and happy to be the next owner of the little brown Porsche who had made him so happy as a young boy, and who continues to make him happy as a young man.
To be continued…

One day I hope to one day pass it down to the next and keep the love and respect for these fine cars alive!

I have two children, a boy and a girl (6&2). They both enjoy car rides. My son when he was about 3 he would pretend to wrench with me. Some of the best memories I have with my Dad when I was young was being around cars and tools. I agree with an earlier sentiment to let them explore as much as you can stand. It good time spent with your child or children.
This is him helping me with the start of a restoration of a 74 Corvette.

Great photos guys. In addition to the bonding moments, when they are old enough to recognize numbers having a helper hand you that 10mm wrench you forgot before crawling under the car is gold!

Great thread. I'm new to the porsche scene bought my first porsche in 2011. Went to buy it with my on Pat who was 17 at the time. He learned how to drive a clutch in it and than it became a struggle getting him out of the drivers seat. Well that changed this weekend. We got a new addition to the family.
We went in on this car together and it's an 83sc.
This is us taking grandma for a ride
Food for thought the future of these cars is in our children. So get them involved.

I love this thread. I started out as a kid in the back seat of my Dad's 77 911s, he's had the car since new. He was never much of a car guy, he bought the car cause he thought it was fun to drive and wanted to get himself a nice car. Years ago we dropped the car off at a shop owned by a friend of ours for a total restoration. Dad tells his friend "Take your time, I'm not in a rush to get the car back" so 15 years, a total strip down and repaint, lost sunroof for 5 years, and hunt for a new steering wheel later we got the car back.

My dad and I haven't always had the best relationship, but I've always remembered getting picked up from school, riding in the back seats, how the engine sounded, and even how beat up the car was. Periodically visiting the car and chatting with the mechanics was something we always did together. Over the years i became more and more of a "car guy" taking apart and working on my car and providing advice to my dad for things to make sure to watch out for on his 911.

This summer we got the car back. With it back my dad and I go on trips together, we talk more, and he's enjoying seeing the car make me as happy as it made him years ago. These days hes injured his hip, so getting in and out is painful for him, as is operating the clutch, so he usually leaves it to me to drive him around town. While my mom isnt a fan of the car anymore, she does appreciate what its done for our relationship so she tolerates it. Upkeep of the car is my responsibility now, and some day I will get to become its caretaker. But right now I'm in grad school and its much better to keep the car in my parents garage.

These cars are so addictive, since ours is restored to original condition aside from the color change and tail I've told him he probably shouldn't go too crazy with it. But I do want to get my hands on another 911 and build up a engine for it and go nuts with it.

This thread is getting printed out. When I have a kid it serves as proof that I'm not insane and still a good dad for wanting to keep a 911 forever!

Does super tangled wind blow hair count as bad parenting?

Jp-oh--that's funny.

My daughter has that same type of long blond hair. We were driving the other day with the windows down and I notice one section of her hair was being pulled out of the window by the airflow and twisted. All I could think of is that hair dryer attachment for women that curls their hair by using air turbulence to spin it.

My son turned 18 today. He's only previously driven the 911 with me in it (as far as I know ).

Last night I asked him "How would you like to drive the 911 to school tomorrow for your 18th Birthday?".

This morning:

As he drove up our (fairly steep) driveway by my wife & I both yelled "Gas, gas!" as he almost stalled. Tee-hee.
