As to the "insert", take a look at the pic. This is the area I would love to see "peeled back" and photo'd. I want to know what that "unseen" area looks like ,...both the bolster side as well as the insert's "sides".

Is that insert "anchored" down? Or is it loose? Sewn?

Doyle - ill check the bolster/insert areas for you. As to the request for pics of the handle stitching - I had sent you a few pics on the "Paint and Resto" thread a month or two back - check those out and let me know if they get you what you need. I'd send them again, but I had to do a recent phone reset and lost all my pictures.

But I can always take some more if the ones on the other thread aren't what you need.

Thanks,

- Mike

Doyle - I checked on the seats. Pics wouldn't really show much, I think. Basically - Mark can confirm - the side part of the inserts doesn't appear to attach directly to the seat/bolster at all. I can sick my fingers into the area between the insert and bolster, all the way down the side of the seat. It is very tight, though. The insert seems to be attached (sewn, I would guess) at the top of the seat, across the seam in the area between the two stitches on the bolster. Does that help?

- Mike

Yes. That does help. That's how I know it, as well. It is certainly loose and attached (sewn) at the ends. My interests are with how they handled the inserts' seam, as to stitching.

I never really ever grabbed my inserts to see if they were free to move upward. I assumed that they were sewn, and not movable.

Real pain in the arse when you need this kind of information "after the fact".

I thank you all.

Should someone be able to "lift" that insert away from the nearby bolster, then take the pics of the inserts sides,..that would be great!

Doyle -

I'll send you a PM - might be easier to coordinate via phone/email. I can try to get a close up pic of the stitching on the side of the insert and how it sits - sounds like that is what you are looking for.

Thanks - sounds like you're getting closer....

- Mike

Big thanks to Michael for the hand-sketched seat dimensions (MANY directions!). Should anybody else have any measurements (dimensions), I'd appreciate a share.

I'll try to get Michael's nice sketch posted here shortly.

Also,..will keep an eye open for you, Cole.

Best!

FS - '89 25th Anniversary Satin Black Cab - FS

Just putting my feelers out on my pretty near prestine '89 25th Anniv Cab. Thinking of selling it.

111K miles. No deferred maintenance. Everything restored or replaced for my very particular sensibilities.

I can forward a few pics for interested parties if you txt your email or call at 310-849-0136.

Comments on values are appreciated as long as its substantiated by recent comps.

Thanks for the help & input!

Regards,
David

1. The plaque clearly says "25th Anniversary Special Edition". It does not say Silver.
2. Hank's own COA says "Anniversary Edition". It does not say Silver.
3. The brochure that old school 911 showed in post #38 says "25th Anniversary", not Silver. Right there in the first sentence.
4. It makes no sense for Porsche to release two special edition 911's, both called Silver Anniversary. Since Silver Anniversary was already given to the '75 cars, they used 25th Anniversary as the official name of the '89 special edition.

Yes, I see that it says Silver Anniversary pkg on the window stickers. Those stickers were produced by PCNA though, not the factory, and mistakes in verbiage were likely commonplace back then as they are today. I think the bulk of the evidence points to 25th Anniversary, not Silver Anniversary and I believe it is an error to call it that.

As I mentioned earlier, Corlett's book, Morgan's Original 911, the Red Book, Leffingwell's books and the host of buyer's guides I have all have misinformation about the '88 and '89 special editions, and should not be relied upon as authoritative information about these models.
Err... You do realize that a "silver" anniversary is a 25 year anniversary, right?

Most ads and published info for these 1989 SE cars get the production numbers and colors wrong. Several books have the wrong info as well. To set the record straight - from the official 4-page Porsche brochure for the "911 25th Anniversary Special Edition":

- 500 U.S. market cars were produced
- 300 were coupes (240 in silver metallic and 60 in satin black metallic)
- 200 were cabriolet models (160 in silver, 40 in satin black)
- all cars had silk grey supple leather with black accent piping and silk grey velour carpeting
- all cars had body color Fuchs wheels in 6x16 and 8x16
- all cars had a stitched leather console with an outside temperature gauge and CD/cassette holder

I've attached a few pictures from the brochure to show support for the numbers, and also to list the other equipment that came on these cars.

Hope this helps to clear up any confusion and to add to the archives!

- Mike

I am looking for the special brochure for this model.

I am willing to pay for it :-)

I want to print it as good as possible in my next book.

Also scans or very good pictures are welcome!

911 Book "Aircooled Years 1974 - 1989" by Berlin Motorbooks

Thank you to Cook&Dunning.

Parts of the brochure are in the new book now, which was just released.

There is already a first review available:
