CIS Pop-Off Valve
I finally got around to pulling the air filter on my barnfind '82 SC this morning and was amazed to find no pop-off valve. I thought those were standard on some SC's, or did I miss something? Engine number is 64C1499, which corresponds to an '82.

Not a factory option, only installed aftermarket.

Fortunately its not hard to do yourself. It is highly recommended - one unlucky backfire and you'll be way behind on cash. 101 Projects covers it iirc.

The only thing the factory added on the later SCs was a metal fuel distributor in the air box. The pop off valve never was installed by Porsche. I would recommend adding a pop off valve as soon as possible. Make sure you install it facing the right way (hinge towards the air filter) otherwise it can remain stuck open when it is triggered.
Good Luck! G |

Thanks for all the replies guys. Food for thought, but I'm a ways from having to worry about that.

I JUST finished installing a pop-off valve on my 1974. I really couldn't figure out why NOT to file down (Dremel) the plastic ribs in the air box so it could sit flush; and get the most surface area contact for the epoxy. I did it and it worked PERFECTLY, I have photos and will post one of these days. More food for thought, be sure not to over eat...
