3.0L 78 SC engine swap into 69 911T wiring question

Hi everyone,

Looking for some guidance for best course of action. I'm attempting to swap a 78 3.0L into a 69 911T. Initially I was planning on trying to re-wire the 69 engine bay wiring into a 14 pin connector to connect to the engine harness, and wiring up an MSD 6A for the CDI. However I just noticed a section in the wiring where it comes out of the tunnel appears a bit burnt (the outer covering is completely melted). Given that I was going to have to pin a connector anyway, wondering if I might be better off getting a new 911SC harness and trying to integrate that into the 69 Fuse Box? Or do I repair the burnt section of the harness and continue with my original plans?

Thank you,
Arthur

We did this many time before and can deliver all wiring for it "plug & play" A custom tunnel harness based on a 911SC would be the best option. Please contact us at info@kroonwireharnesses.com if you want to discuss it further !

Sounds like it's best to go with a new wiring harness as Gerakroo can provide.

Suggestion: Keep the wiring from the distributor to the CDI and coil separate from the engine wiring harness--don't go through the 14 pin connector or tape them together. I'm glad I did that because it makes it easy to swap different ignition systems.

Thanks Pete, harness is on order and we are keeping the CDI separate - thanks for the advice!

Go with Kroon, I have one. Also watched Pete swap a CDI box in five minutes at an AX.

Do you guys recommend I add relays for the Fuel Pump and WUR or is it ok to have those powered on with ignition?

That burn damage definitely raises a red flag, if the insulation’s melted, there could be deeper issues. Since you’re already modifying for the 14-pin and MSD, going with a good 911SC harness could simplify things and give you peace of mind long-term
