Singer 911 style radio install 1969E_with video

So I decided that i would copy the stereo install done by Singer on their
911. I located the exact Sirius reciever and began installing it in my car.

The system uses a cradle which houses the plugs for the antena, power cable
and audio output. The steps are shown below.

Items needed:

2 part metal epoxy
masking tape
some card stock
some imagination

Here a small recess was sanded in the rear of the dash trim piece

The reciever was test fit

The masking tape goes on the front side of the trim, card stock int he shape desired is held up by the masking tape and epoxy is smoothed over to area to fill and up the sides of the card stock. This will create a cradle for the reciever to be mounted.

Trim with vinyl of your choice and wallah! You have a clean install.

I will go over the wiring in the next post.

Regards

John

Looks great! What did you do for an antenna?

Thanks Kevin, I will place the antenna on the floor just in front of the shifter. This unit has fm as well, I'm not sure where to place it. I will try to rig it to the antenna.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but don't the sat antennas need LOS to the birds in the sky?

Hanzo.....I'm looking to install similar in my '89 Targa resto-mod.

Did you have the opportunity to share a wiring diagram ? I'm assuming you take the audio out (RCA) from the Sirius unit and go into the AMP and using the Line Level Controller as the volume ??

I've been looking at removing the dead weight and old technology of the current unit with this type of upgrade.....yours looks great !

Still would love to know where you sourced that vinyl... I want something very similar for recovering the center of my Scheel seats!

Forgive my ignorance, but this is the exact same stereo in the Singer? They don't use a Becker?

Well, according to the Singer 'fountain of knowledge' guy interview with Chris Harris showing all the stuff that makes a these cars what they are, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJQ4hQSusjE) they use a Becker CDR220...

True. I placed my antenna on the cowl with the wire coming out the vent iirc. Another location would be the back roof using the vent for the wire. That said, reception is pretty illogical. I've had the antenna for my portable unit in the middle of a field and gotten crap for signal. Moving it 3' can add 2 bars. They use local repeaters and signal strength is known to fluctuate from the sat at certain points during the day in certain locations. Cliff notes: I'd want the most open position possible

Guys, The vinyl came from Germany along with my seats. I forgot the manufacturer but it is very high quality vinyl. I will dig into my records. I made rear seat bottoms out of it as well. (helps that i own a leather shop ) but the original seats are going back in.

The car is a work in progress, the motor was rebuilt along with almost every sub system. we are going to tackle the front suspension next, then the body will return to stock. Stuttgart performance engineering is doing all of my mech work.

As for the head unit, Singer used this setup early on. Not sure what they are doing now but I like it a lot. the original blaupunkt will go back in after the restoration.

That's Singer's CEO.... And, the true reason they are what they are. Rob had a great idea, but was trying his best to to 'modernize' long hoods to a modern performance level, which was not going to work.

To my knowledge, no Singer contains a Sirius unit. All are CDR-220.

I'm not sure if you are actually adding anything to my post or just trolling the forum.
Evidently your google search skills are not too strong. To satiate your your interest in all things "SINGER" I have included photos FYI.

Kind regards,

Yeah, they used other audio sources in the first orange and green cars. They even used an early Blaupunkt radio in one of the white ones. I suppose you can do pretty much anything in a car that's truly custom built...

I think you did a great looking job on your Sirius install.
