Question Getting ready to do a repaint

I am about to start a repaint on my tired old paint job. 22 years of wear and a minor accident have taken its toll on the Mocha Brown paint. My wife calls my car the brown turd, I am not insulted by the comment and actually use the name myself. I do like the color so I plan to stay with it. My question to the list is.

How do you replace the dimpled undercoating on the front valence and on the lower rocker panels under the doors?

It looks like the skin of an orange I guess this is for protection against road pebbles that get kicked up.

I think it's called body shultz? It's some kind of rubberized coating that's sprayed on. 3M makes it, or they did before.

Yeah I just went through this. Not sure if your question was geared toward a DIY or what to tell a bodyshop, but it is available in different flavours. I didn't care what they used as long as it was there and on the inner fender lips as was factory for my car. If you plan on doing the job yourself I can ask what they mixed in the paint on mine... it came out nice.

I plan on doing the work myself, so if you could find out what your body shop used and how I would appreciate it.

Wink

Yes it is shultz or how ever you spell it!!! but you do need to know that it goes off most of the Shultz is fexable and does not go off as such and then you need to know that it does not react with any paint that you put on the top I am trying to remember the name of the company that does a good one. I know goes off. Wirth I think They have one that does go off and it also depends on the gun you use as you need a shultz gun. Now with the wirth gun it has a number of spray pattens but with a standard gun it has just the one .....unless you take of the nozzel and it gives a thicker pattern. Just play and see as I did. Wirth are a big comapny I am sure they are in the states

All the best

With help from the list, I found a web site with a write up on Porsche undercoating. It is called Wurth SKS stone guard or "body schutz".

I am getting a call from my body guy tomorrow so I'll have an answer then. I actually think it's something they mix into the color and not a coat that is layed down before the paint. Mine looks very nice and original.

The Wurth product matches the factory undercoating. The 3M product and others don't. There are instructions on the bottle on how to apply.
Good luck with your turd

Are you sure Targa80...

This is my Mocha Brown 911:

Well, it used to be Mocha brown. Don't you think it looks good in silver??? I haven't got around to doing the wheels yet.

The word on the street is Nostatic is starting up an exclusive chapter of the SCWDP for silver SCs.

Bill:

Your car looks really nice and silver is a sharp color. I have only once before changed the paint color on a car. It was a gold 1967 Chevy Impala SS. I changed it to an ocean blue using Imron enamel. When I bought the Imron enamel the dealer said when it dries it will still shine like it was still wet. He was absolutely right. Boy, did that car turn heads as I drove by. Wished I still had it today ( a divorce 20 years ago relieved me of ownership. Now, I have a different attitude with the Porsche I like the turd color and want to keep the car as close to factory original as I can (except for the radio and cd changer.
