I agree. Hartmut and is team @ PAS executed my vision perfectly. I should have the reimagined tachometer back very soon and I'll post photos.

Since you clearly have some talented metal workers under your commission, have you considered having them work a bit on the 930 flares to give them more of the RSR character?
I have, but, "in the metal" the stamped flare 930 quarters on this long hood shell look incredible. I understand the want to be more period with the tapering, but it looks stunning in person as is (some minor inner lip tweaks for clearance). Once painted, let's see how it looks and reevaluate.

Some of these guys kill me trying to keep-up or build what's perceived to be hot at the moment.. then when the tastes change and they're still building, thy struggle /waste money to change direction in order to be relevant. Poo on that, build what you feel or what's cool to you!

And BTW, I personally can't remember a time when an RSR wasn't cool..

I'm just say'n..
Well said. I didn't cutup a real RSR. This was Brumos's version of a club racer/hot rod. The metal and finishing work was poor (but likely okay in 1974). I'd like to imagine this is how they would have done it in 2014.

I'm keeping the heart of their original vision in this car - the 3.0 power plant. I'm keeping the shell close to what they intended, but with some tweaks.

I know and I certainly understand...just a suggestion. It's certainly your baby and she should look how you want, no matter what anyone says.

If I may, though, I wanted to suggest a relative half-way without the extra work and time of full-detailed RSR: Have your metal guy do a very simple process of using a "spoon" to soften the shoulders a bit. Not cutting, no welding, no heat. You just slap the corners down a bit so there's not so much vertical lip and the corner radius is so sharp and distinct. It's a relatively simply process with the spoon and dolly. Takes a couple hours per corner.

All the best, it's an incredible project!

The bottom side is primered and ready for ceramic coating.

This is a neat setup. Does it require a lifting mechanism (engine hoist?) to perform the 90 degree roll or just a floor jack? Or a few guys with strong backs?

It's called a "knock over trolley" - you can easily just "knock it over" with a little muscle. This helps facilitate painting the bottom end and will make plumbing and wiring so much easier when the time comes.

This trolley does not require a lift or hoist. One person can easily tip it over. There's a 45* step in there as well to easy the transition.

Chris - what are the benefits of ceramic coating over powder or paint (e.g. epoxy)?

I could fit quite a few more cars in a 16 x 24 garage, too....

Great project, thanks for sharing.

I've always wondered how much the paint on a 911 weighs...

IS ceramic more resistant to rock chips than powder coat?

Look, just turn the 915 trans into a Coffee Table, it's that nice. Tell Henry he out did himself on your trans.

Chris,
It appears media blasting was used to strip your chassis. What media did they use?

I am picking up a '73 tub on Saturday and want to get it stripped before I begin work on it. My body shop guy said he won't work on a car that has been soda blasted, and there are no places to dip close to here, so that only leaves me with some type of abrasive media, but one that hopefully won't warp panels in the right hands.

He most likely means glass bead because a lot of paint companies have started to not warrant adhesion because they have concluded a layer of silicon is being impregnated on the surface. Ask them what media he will accept. Go to Eastwood for a complete list of options and what to use them for

I'm jealous. I've been trying to get out there to see it in progress myself.

While not entirely accurate nor scientific, we weighed the "waste" from media blasting and it was in the order of 52 lbs. This includes undercoating and three (yes, 3) layers of paint.
